Hi, after-market ultrasonic sensors require drilling the rear bumper and have 4-8 visible sensors which may over time become dirty and may miss smaller objects but they work even when the car is stationary unlike electromagnetic sensors which more expensive, mounted inside the bumper (no drilling required) and only work when the car is moving. It's easy to find car audio shops in Thailand to fit ultrasonic sensors; those independent shops you find in malls, supermarkets, or sometimes outside in the parking lot will offer kits.

If you like DIY, there are plenty of cheap $10-$20 ultrasonic kits available on ebay; you pay via 'paypal' which affords you buyer protection and refund options (unlike anywhere in Thailand). Most kits ship from Hong Kong (some for free) and include instructions and even the correct drill piece. If you need more help, youtube has plenty of videos like

one; just type 'parking sensors' into ebay and you'll likely see the same kit as used in the video.

If you don't like DIY, then get some quotes before deciding whether it's cheaper to order a kit online and pay an independent car shop to fit it.

Are you suggesting that there are no honest businesses in Thailand? unsure.png

How does one get a refund on an item from Hong Kong? I guess send it back by registered mail or EMS which would cost more than the refund. If they even acknowledge receipt.

Sorry, I didn't intend to be negative about Thailand, I just meant that some people are put off ordering online and getting it shipped to Thailand, but paypal offers consumer rights about products that don't work or don't arrive and you can receive a refund. Sellers don't want negative feedback so it's an unlikely occurrence. If you look at the kits most Thai car shops offer, they are usually the same Hong Kong-sourced products.

That's Ok I am not familiar with a situation about how this would work. There are just as many, probably more, potentially unscrupulous buyers as there are sellers and there is no penalty to being listed as a bad buyer, if there is such a thing.

If you buy locally you always have somewhere to go back to if it is a reputable company and your complaint is valid there is usually something that can be worked out. Volume buyers save money on shipping which can be passed on. Buying one by one is usually more expensive unless one avoiding paying import duty. Sometimes one does get away with it but not always.

Thanks Guys, you got me pointed in the right direction.

Have studied both and feel I will try the Electromagnetic first, it avoids drilling the bumper, does not have the visual digital display which I personally don't like.

The audible speaker can be discretely mounted on the rear parcel shelf.

The point of only working while moving is OK, can't imagine hitting something while stationary.

Taking the bumper off is no big deal.

If it does not do what I want I can remove and replace with the Ultrasonic.

Now, do either of you know if the Electro unit is available in BKK?, all adverts seem to be Ultasonic based.

Thanks again.

I understand you don't like the display but I have driven cars with beepers, displays, reversing cameras and combinations of these, and I found the beeper with display the easiest to use.

A friend has a system that has a distance read out and a grid of lghts showing the direction / position of the obsticle but that may be over kill.
