Best Place To Sell Used Books

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've sold used books in the past and have noticed there seems to be a big difference in the price that shops offer to pay for them. I've had a bit of a sort out and have a pile of books I'm looking to sell. Where's the best place to sell them?

Cheers,

MP

You could put up a classified ad too.. But when it comes to book stores, the price may depend on the particular book, and who you talk to. If that's just some book store underling who can't really assess popularity then you're just going to get a base price based on release date and the state it's in. Someone who actually knows books may offer a little more for a title that he knows will be in demand.

It really depends on what the books are. Right now, any of the Hunger Games series should get a good price and authors like Charles Bukowski or Hunter S. Thompson always sell well. There are some books that are always popular, but they are few and far between. Most go out of fashion quickly and are difficult to sell after they are forgotten.

Most places seem to have way too many copies of pulp fiction titles like Grisham, Cornwell or Clancy, so might pay almost nothing or just reject them completely unless they are very new and in demand.

I have number of used books not really in condition or popularity for used book shop was wondering if there was a recycle place for them.

I usually give my books away and hope they will be passed on likewise.

The more specialised books (and yes there have been many) that I no longer need, have always been taken by Gecko for a fair price and I know for sure, that they will probably sit on Mr. UG's shelf for a very long time!

The Vegetarian Society takes books(and other things) as donations. If you don't plan on selling them off, maybe donate them?

If you live in Chiang Mai and don't need a quick return on your money, The Olde Bell has a small book selling service that offers you 50% of the sale value as vouchers: in other words, if we decide a book is worth 160 baht, we put a code on the book (usually your initials) and when the book sells we write down your share - 80 baht - and next time you're in, you get a voucher for that amount. Men's fiction sells the best: John Connelly, David Baldacci, James T. Patterson, Steven Leather, and so on. Next best are biographies of famous people. then 'famous titles' We'll try to sell anything but outdated computer manuals are no-no!

If you are interested, drop me a PM.
