Celebration for 2,600th anniversary for Buddha’s Enlightenment to be held

BANGKOK, 16 May 2012 (NNT) - A well-known Buddhism university is prepared to organize the 9th International Day of Vesak event, with a focus on special celebration on the 2,600th year anniversary of Buddha’s Enlightenment.

The Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University (MCU), the Public Relations Department, and other related organizations will organize the 9th International Day of Vesak celebration at the University in Wangnoi, Ayutthaya from May 31st- June 2nd.

Most Ven. Prof. Dr. Dharmakosajarn, rector of MCU, said that the event will also combine the 2,600th year Buddha’s Enlightenment, known as Buddhajayanti, celebration in the event as well. It will also be organized to celebrate Her Majesty the Queen’s 80th birthday anniversary which falls on August 12th, 2012 as well as His Royal Highness Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn’s 60th birthday on July 28th, 2012.

The National Broadcasting Services of Thailand (NBT) will broadcast the event live on May 31st and on June 2nd. The Public Relations Department will be the information center.
