My Thai Gf Has Us Visa In Old Passport

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Does anyone have experience with this?

I am going to USA with my Thai girlfriend. She has a US entry visa for work but here is the problem:

She has a US entry visa good for 10 years

Thai passport is only valid for 5 years

The passport has since expired and she now has a new Thai passport but the US visa in her old passport still has 5 years of validity left

Can she show up in the US with a visa that is still valid in an expired passport and present her new passport?

I will contact the US embassy about this but just checking here if anyone has any previous experience with it.

thanks and I will post the results when it is all sorted out

Yes, she travels with both passports, presents both when entering the US, no problems.

You say she has a US entry visa "for work" that is valid for 10 years. Visas that permit paid employment in the US are normally not valid for 10 years - I think you must be referring to a B-1/B-2 visa that permits short-term visits for tourism or business. A B-1/B-2 remains valid even if the passport it is affixed in expires. Your GF should be granted entry if she presents the expired passport with visa along with a current passport in the same name.

What I mean is she has visa issued through her work that lets her go to usa for training, etc... It is a B1/B2. Thanks for the feedback, this is good news!

Yes, she should bring both passports.

My USA visa is also in my last passport, just attach both. I have done this in Amserican, once entering UK and also in Holland. No problem at all and easier than transfering visas.

PS my husband has entered thailand in the same way
