Can someone tell me if there is a minimum teaching hours requirement for those getting the non-immigrant B based on teaching? Is a teaching schedule a paper requirement for the visa / extension of stay? Or is a simple 'full time' all this is necessary even though the 'teacher' doesn't teach at all or only a few hours a week, and the rest is administration work?

Thanks...

That is a question I'm not 100% sure about, but for volunteering and studying, the minimum requirement set by immigration is 4 hours a week. So that might be the minimum requirement for working too.

A teaching/work schedule is necesarry, but presume it could be partly teaching and partly other activities.

I did not think about a minimum number of hours. As I am just signing a contract for 4 hours a week. Mario would probably be correct.

For the visa application the number of hours per week or per month should suffice, as stated in the contract. An actual schedule of hours per day, times etc., should not be necessary. A simple "full time" should be fine.

Yesterday I posted in the teachers forum re: should the contract say the wage per hour, or the monthly wage based on the number of hours. I have not received a definitive answer on that question.

All my previous contracts stated the number of hours per month and the monthly wage, not hourly, but since my new school has never made a contract with a foreigner and I think they want the contract to say wage per hour as opposed to wage per month, I posted the question, as I am trying to help them with the contract, for the visa.

I read your posting in the teaching forum and that's partly why I'm posting here:) I think teaching hours is important, but I'm pretty sure the hourly rate isn't. In my english contract, we quote monthly salary. But we also have part timers but they make other arrangements for visas/work permits. You would need your school to check with the ministry of labour about the rules for teaching hours to see where you stand. It might be possible to get them to list you as full time, and just be at the school for the whole day or something like that. I thought a teaching schedule should be provided but I'm not sure as I'm not normally involved in the paper chase. However, when I sign my documents each year I've never seen a teaching schedule. Best to check with the MoL !!

I always have to provide a teaching schedule, but the rules don't list the teaching schedule.

Regarding the salary it states that the monthly salary rate must be shown by the educational institution.

I note that those requirements for the extension of stay, but I think the teaching schedule / minimum number of contact periods might be a labour office requirement. It will be interesting to find this out.
