I've copied an email sent out by SCAD concerning their failed attempts to merge with Soi Dogs and the decision to close down their operations.

I assume this hasn't been mentioned elsewhere.

The main concern is to find homes for the animals still in their care, so I'm sure they would appreciate assistance from anyone and everyone, especially those of you living in Bangkok.

In my previous letter to you, I shared news about our future plans. We seem to have come full circle, but this time the news for SCAD is not as rosy.

Despite the announcement of the 1st of March, we have not been able to successfully conclude our merger with SDF. As such, SDF will proceed with their expansion plans in Bangkok without SCAD and we wish them all the best.

This development has forced us to take a very long and hard look at SCAD. We had to weather a number of challenges over the years, but none seemed to compare with what we had to deal with in the last year. These challenges culminated in an overstretched team with overstretched finances, in large part due to a lack of ongoing, regular income. We therefore had to make the extremely difficult, but inevitable, decision that the time has come for SCAD to close its doors.

We have had a good 10 years and with the support of wonderful people like you, we have made a difference to the lives of thousands of animals that crossed our paths. Although this is a very sad moment for all of us, we are very proud of SCAD and what we have contributed to animal welfare in Bangkok. We believe that we leave behind a legacy of deep-rooted compassion for all animals that will grow as we hand over the baton to SDF and the many other worthwhile animal welfare organizations in Bangkok and Thailand.

We will be winding down our operations over the next 2½ months. We plan to vacate our center at Sukhumvit 93 at the end of June, and then wrap up at Bang Bo towards the end of July.

Our first priority is to find suitable homes for all the animals in our care and we are making very good progress on that. We do, however, need to spread the word about the need to find good homes for our animals and we could really use your help here. We have posters available on Facebook or from [email protected] . A posting on your Facebook page or a few e-mails to friends will really go a long way in helping us find forever homes for our lovely animals. I would nevertheless like to assure you that each one of our animals will be safe and cared for before we close our gates for the last time. We are absolutely committed to that.

Looking back over the past 10 years, one thing is very clear: none of our work would have been possible without your support and we, together with the animals, would like thank you very much for that. We have a lifetime of wonderful memories to take with us.

Warm regards,

Annelize

I am just catching up on this but want some more info about why it is closing down / could it remain open if someone else decided to run it? What was the purpose behind combining with with Phuket based Soidogs and why did it not happen? Does anyone have the scoop on this as I potentially am interested in getting involved but would have to be on the right terms.

I'm not knowledgeable enough to provide that information. I did read about the proposed merger, presumably to make fund raising and use of admin costs more efficient, but am not sure why that failed. I guess the floods last year took their toll.

The foundation spokesperson can be contacted at ( I assume since this is a charitable organization and this email address is available on their website that posting it here is not a violation of forum rules??).
