Transfer Visa Stamp To New Passport

Featured Replies

I have searched the Immigration website but have not found an answer to my question, which is as follows.

My booked extension date for my Non Imm visa is May 29th & today, May 21st I received a new British passport. Do I have to apply to have the existing stamp transferred before I go in one week to apply for my annual extension?

Thanks in advance for any enlightenment.

I believe you do because the BE will either cut the corner of your existing passport or stamp it 'invalid'. You can't have two passports from the same country running concurrently (I think), so Thai immigration will only use the 'legal' one. My advice would be to get your details changed over at immigration ASAP so you have nothing to worry about. Other members might be able to give you better instructions.

I met a person in Chiang Mai that had two passports from the US at the same time.

It probably is not something they want to make to plentiful, but, at least at that time, it was possible. I also believe you would have to have a good reason (he did) for that.

Just take both passports and they will transfer your visa details to your new passport, or staple your old passport to your new one which they initially did in my case.

I had my visa/permission to stay transferred to a new passport a few years ago. In order to have the transfer I had to have a letter from the US Consulate requesting that they transfer the stamp.

This is from the Immigration Bureau web site:

Transfer of visa to new passport in case of expired or full passport Relevant laws and regulations 1979 immigration act Required documents

  • Application form
  • New passport and copy data page
  • Old passport
  • Copy old passport data page , arrival stamp , departure card and visa (if have)
  • Certificate of Embassy

Procedure

  • In case of foreign national with application for extension of stay or residence in the Kingdom:
    • Contact the respective sections according to the visa type or extension of stay

Note The following information must be provided: Passport or travel document number, place and date of issue, visa type, port and mode of arrival, date of arrival (first date of arrival) and admission period, reason for changing passport or travel document and transferring visa stamp.

In case of foreign national with application for residence in the Kingdom, the date of application for residence as well as the consideration period must be given. If during the consideration period a re-entry permit was issued and the applicant has left and re-entered the country, evidence of the most recent arrival must be given.

That is from the Immigration Bureau web site for transferring visa stamp.

Have the details transferred to the new passport before you go to update your visa.

They will not do both at the same time.

The Embassy have nothing to do with the Passport chain at this time. It goes through Hong Kong and the passport is sent from the UK, also you keep your old passport whilst here, do not send.

Everything is changing.

  • 5 weeks later...

Just a quick question.

Do they charge anything for this?

I couldn't find any info on the immigration office website.

no charge the last time I did it but everyday is different

you should get the visa transferred to the new passport before the extension appointment, it should be done asap after getting the new passport
