International Post / Courier Services

Recommended Posts

greetings... i'm looking into sending small amounts (& hopefully larger amounts in the future) of products from Thailand to Europe / Aus / USA - seems the Thai postal service is quite expensive & in some cases more expensive than the products are worth. Anyone know of more reasonable services available & have any experience with these services ( reliability / speed / cost's / collection service / drop off points ) etc. ?? your wisdom appreciated...

Regards JD

Every year, about 100,000 guys decide to support themselves in Thailand by exporting whatever back home.(In 2006, I was number 72,659 for that year) Of that number, probably 10 actually succeed; shipping, along with distribution and actually finding a market for whatever being a huge impediment.

Thai Post is actually very dependable and is one of the less expensive methods.

Yeh i dont doubt it's a difficult way to support yourself & sure everyone & his brother thinks they'll have a bash at it. secret i suppose is to find a niche market with nice profit margins- i have a few specialist products that i'll test out-even if it's just a bit of extra income...

Thanks for your input.

For small packages, Thai post is pretty much the cheapest option out there

In order to get costs down any further you would need to export in larger volumes and then breakdown and distribute to various customers at the destination

Have sent literally thousands of items from Thailand to the West since I moved here. Thailand Post Registered Mail is the cheapest and most reliable option there is. If you find this too expensive, then your business model isn't viable. You aren't going to get it for less.

You can always try wholesale shipments to established retail outlets overseas. Then you can ship container loads at more cost effective rates. But it will also take 2 months.

Otherwise you will need to concentrate on small, lightweight, high value items where the shipping cost is not prohibitive.

But then you are likely to get into export license requirements and the need to register a company, employ Thais, pay taxes, VAT hassles etc. etc.

Thanks. Yeh thats my thinking -small , light ,high value. Do you have any knowledge of the risk's when posting items, WITHOUT paying the extra 65 baht 'guarantee'. I've sent personal stuff to family before with AND without paying the 65 baht extra. Not had a problem so far, but have only sent a few bits-on an ongoing basis do you think theres significant risk of stuff getting lost if i dont pay it? any experiences with that?

Thanks.thumbsup.gif

Couldn't i just use an agent?

All ads to the costs, and then what about an import licence in the country you're shipping to?

More agents costs to think about, and distribution costs to the various retailers.
