A crew of more than 1,000 has been working to prepare Rajamangala National Stadium for the big event, and police have stepped up security and traffic-control measures. For the biggest concert ever put on by promoter BEC-Tero, props and gear have been hauled in by three 747 aircraft and by sea in 23 shipping containers. One piece of equipment was so large that a gate at the stadium had to be removed to fit it in.

Seems to me that here we have a 'fake entertainer' calling for a 'fake watch' to match her personality. In my days, an 'entertainer' did not need all of the above to 'entertain'. I wonder how she would be perceived by her fans without all of the above crap that the so called 'pop stars/entertainers' haul around the world these days. They wouldn't get a sniff in without all of it, and nobody would give a toss what they said or did, but we live in the wonderful world of the publicity media which must be exploited at all cost.

Can you remember the days, when we used to judge a good singer just by there voice alone, either solo, or accompanied by a decent orchestra - nowadays it seems to be all smoke and mirrors.

Funny how no one seems to have picked up on the "lady market" comment. She wasn't talking about a place where ladies shop, more likely a place where they're sold.

I would wager that if you asked westerners, that have never even been to Asia, to name the top 5 things that come to mind regarding Thailand that prostitution and counterfeit goods would be in there more often than not.

I guess we are supposed to ignore those things that are shoved down our throats, and prostrate ourselves before the miracle that is Thailand. Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.

I would say that this knee jerk reaction to her tweet is in and of itself a part of the problem here in Thailand. All to often the solution here is ignoring a problem...or pretending that something obvious doesn't exist. It's all about the ridiculous concept of "saving face" at all costs, and sadly only adds to the problems here, that the international community is well aware of....whether some Thai citizens want to accept that or not to "save face" is irrelevant. whistling.gif

I agree with your comment of saving face, but only to a point, they are prepared to lose face and do it well when it comes to extracting the goodies from someone, no matter if the victim is thai or foreigner, I have had it happen to me and seen it happen to others

I do believe that the mention of 'lady market' is a reference to a market in Hong Kong that sells items that are preferred by ............er, ladies.

She was in HK earlier this month, so maybe that is a clue!!

Just a cheap shot from a non talented performer, generating media attention. Gaga's 15 minutes are almost up.

In the meantime, she's selling out stadiums worldwide.

So does that Bieber kid. Doesn't mean you have to take what he says seriously either.

Really? not that it matters, but please do provide a source for such spellingwhistling.gif

For someone claiming "not that it matters" you sure do waste quite a bit of space posting about spelling mistakes. Get over it. We all know what was meant.

was that suppose to be an informative post or a troll response?

Yep, I posted elsewhere that LG is only worth $150,000,000 and is only getting started. She made $90,000,000 in 2011 alone. I have the snicker at those throwing barbs from the cheap seats.

...

I never saw so much leg and arse until I made it over here. It's EVERYWHERE. From Hi-So to So-So to Lo-So. See through, excessively tight, short skirts and whatnot.

How can you have 'excessively tight'?

That's the sort of thing the late Mary Whitehouse might have said...

I certainly cannot, but, y'know, I'm not the one parroting the nation building slogans.

I like it just the way it is. But, sadly, I know what's right...

EDIT:

It would be fine if they just owned their 'stuff'. It would still be frustrating at times, but they could at least point to some dignity by way of 'fessing up' to their dirt. It's the denial, I think, that gets people.

Although completely off topic ... Nobody was selling any DVDs anywhere in the world 20-years ago let alone in Pattaya or Bangkok.

T.I.T. ! One has to love the unashamed stand taken by the purveyors of fake Rolex watches, kayoey cabarets, sex-tours and jet-ski scams telling the world that Lady Gaga's comments are bad for Thailand's image. T.I.T. No need to say more.......WOW.

No one can deny that Lady G has a large following and that she is very popular with her particular vociferous and youthful fanbase.... like those who will scream at her antics in Bangkok.

In the UK there was a nationwide poll at the turn of the millenium as to who were the greatest band ever... that's 'band' mind you. When the votes were announced The Stones were third,The Beatles second and the winners were (thanks to a similar fanbase LG has now) that great Irish band........ Westlife, who didn't actually play any instruments.

Success and greatness are not the same thing.

I also forgot to mention the fake amulets that are blatantly passed off as real to unsuspecting collectors and tourists or the charge of admission to get into temples, or the two-tier pricing-system or the........T.I.T.

Ah, no. If you'll go back and read the original tweet, which this whole thread is based on, you will see that she was most definitely referring to BKK. And as for the hockey about "items preferred by......er, ladies", not sure about your command of English but I believe that by saying "lady market" she was refering to a place where ladies are sold. Like a fish market. Don't be thick. But thanks for proving my original point.

It was supposed to be an informative post for you to stop wasting space correcting spelling errors of other posters. If you are so inclined to correct others, go work as a teacher or volunteer your free time to the many organizations around the country that put out misspellings on a national scale. Here you are just the troll and since we all know what the poster meant you just look like an idiot for trying to correct his spelling.

I also believe, having visited this particular market, that the 'lady market' in Hong Kong also sells items of a counterfeit nature. Similar, in fact, to the rolexes noted in the aforementioned tweet.

Sounds like another clue to me........

Gotta love the University Lecturer Kalyakorn Naksompop's retort though.

"If Gaga supports fake Rolex in Thailand, I bet she also supports the illegal copies of her album. Such an ignorant comment!"

Nice to see a keen minded statement in the press here in Thailand.

I Agree. I had two conversations on this subject on my way home from work this evening. First the taxi driver said "She has 4 real ones. Why does she need a fake one?" Second one of the girls in the Bar said " Thailand velly good for copies she can also go to Pantip and buy fake copies of her CDs"Another girl asked me if the traffic was bad and when I said that it wasn't bad she said " It's because all of the rich people have gone to see Lady Gaga and the poor people have gone to Ayuthaya to see the King"

Don't get me wrong. I'm not a GaGa fan...nor am I am critic. She appeals to an entirely different generation than mine. I am more of a classic rock fan . Her success cannot be denied. Greatness is subjective and depends on who you ask. To the generation who follow her, she is great and most of them probably know nothing of the Stones, Zeppelin or others from that era.

how does a taxi driver know how many watches lady gaga has and how does he know how many of them are real?blink.png

also pardon me for asking but in what language did the conversations took place?

There is this big movement on the Thai Twittraverse right now about how some Thais fail to perceive what Thailand's good at: being the brothel capital of the world and the fake goods capital.

If you can read Thai, I suggest you all head over to Twitter right now the debate is just epic and LOL.

Reminds me of a time past in a more unregulated universe (usenet) when a friend, one of the "net-legends", once half jokingly responded that the way you said "I love you" in Thai is "haa roi baat". The Thais online at the time, one of whom became one of the most influential Internet technology leaders in Thailand, were so offended that they let loose some really bad jive that eventually led to a major libel lawsuit in the UK. Some things appear to have changed less that others since those crazy online days.
