Science Minister launches training course for high-school science teachers

BANGKOK, 30 May 2012 (NNT) - A training program for high-school Science teachers kicked off on Tuesday with the objective of keeping teaching staffs up-to-date with the current progress of science and technology.

Science and Technology Minister Plordprasop Suraswadi yesterday presided over the launch of a science and technology training program for high-school Science teachers at the Sirindhorn Science Home in Pathumthani province. Over 240 high-school Science teachers from Nonthaburi, Ayutthaya, Pathumthani and Saraburi are participating in the training course to learn more about modern science and technology, such as Nanotechnology, Enzyme Technology, Materials Technology and Astronomy. The organizers aim for the course participants to adapt and relate their newly acquired knowledge to keep students to updated with the changes and progress of science and technology.

Mr. Plordprasop said that currently Thailand is facing a shortage of personnel in the field of science. Thus, it is essential to cultivate new-generation scientists, starting from the basic level in primary school up to university level.

He also added that the cabinet has recently approved a number of budget proposals related to the promotion of science development in the country, such as the 8 billion-baht Science Park project and the 400 million-baht Astro Park project.
