Transfer Maps From Google Or Mapquest To My Garmin.

Featured Replies

I recently bought a Garmin Nüvi 1490T

It seems to be possible to prepare routes in Google or MapQuest and transfer them onto the Garmin-device.

I've installed Garmin Communicator and connected my Garmin with a USB cable to my laptop.

I've tried several options, but ....... nothing.

A "send" possibility can't be found.

I'll try again today, but maybe someone has THE solution.

Have you tried your Garmin with Basecamp ?? http://www.garmin.com/us/products/onthetrail/basecamp (Free download)

Then you can make KMZ files in Google Maps and then import these via Basecamp into your GPS.

trying it now........looks more like a professional off road "toy", but I'll find out and report back.

^ I stopped using Google Maps for making routes, as Basecamp reads the actual maps which are in your device with all the details and you can also use all the waypoints you have saved in your device without having them to export first.

Did try Basecamp and yes, it actually works with the maps that are in your device.

Disadvantage: Search possibilites are less than in Google + device MUST be connected to your computer and loading the maps may take some time.

Still not sure whether to use "takeitwithme" or "Basecamp"

Again, thanks for the input.

When I connect my Nuvi to my Computer after I start BaseCamp, the Maps are loaded almost instantly, so that's very strange. And I tried it on my wife's laptop and that's not a real fast machine (but good enough for her games ;) )
