While I am in sympathy with your medical problems, I don't see the neccessity to criticise all and sundry on open forum everytime things don't work your way. I am sure if the demise of your pacemaker (and you) were imminent it would have been treated with much more urgency by the health professionals. Equally, if you really thought you were in danger you would be in a hospital ward not complaining yet again here. Several years ago I was informed my ceramic artificial hip was part of a bad batch (made in Europe) and could shatter at any time. I don't play the blame game. Why don't you hop a fast jet back to Old Blighted and seek better health care there.

usatrader
My best to you I know it will all work out. Nothing withstanding the posting and notice madness you faced. Just a bit of info about pacemakers, it may not be an Aussy thing entirely. December 28, 2005 By MARK MOWBRAY 6 News Reporter KNOXVILLE (WATE) -- An FDA recall affects nine different pacemakers made by Guidant and time is running out to have the surgery paid for. According to an FDA letter, the problems at the company's plant are, "...symptomatic of serious underlying problems in your firm's manufacturing and quality assurance systems." Local heart rhythm specialist Dr. Robert Belt says the procedure to replace the defective device is relatively simple. "Replacing the device requires local anesthesia and a simple incision to remove the pacemaker. A new one can be connected to the old wires." Guidant's company Web site states that the chances a patient's pacemaker would quit working is less than a half of a percent. Dr. Belt agrees about the rarity of failure. "There's times when a physician and patient decide that they want to remove the device just to be on the safe side. But usually, this problem occurs in one in 10,000, which is a very small percentage." The pacemakers Guidant recalled in July are models made between November 25, 1997 and October 26, 2000. The models are: * PULSAR® MAX Models 1170, 1171, 1270 * PULSAR Models 0470, 0870, 0970, 0972, 1172, 1272 * DISCOVERY® Models 1174, 1175, 1273, 1274, 1275 * MERIDIAN® Models 0476, 0976, 1176, 1276 * PULSAR MAX II Models 1180, 1181, 1280 * DISCOVERY II Models 0481, 0981, 1184, 1186, 1187, 1283, 1284, 1285, 1286 * CONTAK TR® Model 1241 * VIRTUS PLUS® II* Models 1380, 1480 * INTELIS II Models 1483, 1484, 1485, 1384, 1385, 1349, 1499 For people who don't know if they're affected, each patient has a card with the type of device and serial number listed. Click here to learn if your type of device is on the advisory or recall list. However, time is running out. As of December 31, Guidant will no longer pay for the surgery. Best of luck all will be well I am sure. http://www.wate.com/Global/story.asp?S=4294679&nav=E8Yv

Nignoy Nignoy, thanks for the reply. I am not blinkered to Australias faults (have a look at the Government we're saddled with) nor overly sensitive to good natured, humourous critisism of my country. However, I was pointing out that when you post here, it seemingly is to invoke sympathy about your health from the membership or to blame Australia for your personal woes. You are not the only person with medical problems. I know of one guy stuck in a shed in Sydney who would dearly like to return to Thailand, but because of complications is unable to at this time. He doesn't start threads to whine about it. I repeat, I am not unsympathetic to your medical problems and strongly suggest you head to the nearest hospital to seek help if you feel you are in danger from a faulty pacemaker. Don't stop to whinge here. I share your thoughts about the soccer, I can't stand to watch what I consider the most boring football game in the world, but also look forward to some good natured battles with your countrymen when the big one starts. I don't know what the title of the thread "Australian Diplomacy" has to do with the content (unless it is your lack of diplomacy) nor the relevance to Thailand. Greer
14 days from BNE to Bribie... !!!!! Bluddy heII - sent by Australia Posts best and fastest delivery tortoise - doesn't surprise me though... Hope the op works out - no doubt it will... I note that Old Croc says that if the health officials thought it was dangerous they would have been in touch sooner - but from what Nignoy says it sounds as if they were hoping not to have to replace many of the units - hopefully most of the users would have discovered the fault by then anyway... I was hoping to catch up with John of The Shed before I head home to Bangkok too...but I guess not much of this has anything to do with our beloved Thailand - other than being a comparison showing that the "advanced first world" countries are not always all they are cracked up to be!
