Thai Insurance Companies

Featured Replies

Has anyone had problems with insurance companies? We were mis-sold a policy prior to the flooding and then when the time came to put in a claim were told our policy only covered us against Tsunami. Since we're no where near the coast, not much use to us. The company is one of the top companies operating in Thailand. I can't say which one since we'll will start legal action against them soon. If anyone else has had similar problems I would be interested to hear. Or indeed if anyone knows of a good lawer with experience of suing insurance companies.

quite suprised they even insured you for a Tsumani, sometimes flood insurance is exluded from polices....sure there hasnt been confusion over wording in the policy by yourselves or the agent...as technically speaking it you got hit by a Tsunami, one would be flooded out..

We discussed with the agent about the problems in Chiang Mai and surrounding areas, and then asked her for cover in case it happened in Bangkok area. Our problem was trusting her. Insurance companies don't allow you to see the policy until after you pay for it. Then there is supposed to be a cooling off period, but we never got to see the policy at all, she never sent it to us. Also their company strategy is never to make their policy documents available in English. Yes it could be that she saw Tsunami and so assumed flooding caused by rain or dam overflow would be covered.

and why should they ?....English is not a an official languge in Thailand and the legally binding language in Thailand is.........wait for it...Thai

go on say it....you know you want to....."SCAM"

Think we are back to the farang misperception that they are different and demand to be treated differently in Thailand because they are farang

Do as I do with Thai legally binding documents inclusive of contracts and insurance polices...retain a lawyer to review for you...wink.png
