redrus
United - Welbeck Woe...? vitalfootball......... There`s always an inherent danger that when a youngster is sent on loan to gain some much needed regular first team experience, matters don`t always turn out as expected. If we look at the example ofDanny Welbeck, it was decreed that Danny would be well served by signing for Sunderland, where under the stewardship of Steve Bruce, it was hoped he`d get the experience previously referenced. Before the season started, Steve sold one Sunderland striker, Kenwyne Jones, to Stoke and it looked as if Danny would get his fair share of starts partnering either Sunderland`s top scorer - Darren Bent, or another United old-boy - Frazier Campbell. Sadly for Campbell, a knee injury sustained on Saturday has sidelined him for up to six months, which in a harsh sort of way might have given Danny the opportunity to become a Sunderland regular. That was until yesterday! On transfer deadline day, Steve Bruce broke Sunderland`s transfer record by purchasing another striker - Asamoah Gyan. Obviously, his high price would seem to indicate that Steve Bruce is going to partner Gyan with Bent, leaving Danny`s hopes for regular first team football not looking too far removed from the hopes he had at Old Trafford! Would Danny have been better served dropping into the Championship? redrus
As already mentioned by Sparkles. united-latest.com BREAKING NEWS: United have named injured midfielder Owen Hargreaves in their 25-man Premier League squad. The news comes after intense speculation regarding the 29-year-old's future at Old Trafford. Hargreaves has been the subject of media speculation regarding his future at Old Trafford recently, with some reports suggested the 29-year-old Canadian-born England International would be left-out of United's 25-man Premier League squad, while some doubted Hargo had a future at the club. Oliveira Anderson was another doubt, but he too has made Sir Alex's list. At 5pm on Wednesday, ManUtd.Com confirmed that Hargreaves had been included in the League squad, which comprises of 23 registered players. All of The Reds' players have been included in the squad, barring players out on-loan. The club have this evening stated: "All of United's players - barring those currently out on loan - are eligible to play for The Reds in the Premier League this season." Hargreaves is currently undergoing rehabilitation work in Colorado, United States, while Anderson is set to line-up against Oldham Athletic's Reserves tonight, along with Rio Ferdinand. redrus

Reading this Nev made me think how much England could have done with a fit Owen Hargreaves and Jonathon Woodgate in South Africa. Atleast it appears Hargreaves is going to play again, as it looks like Woodgate is going to have to retire.

Sparkles
Amuses me about the hysteria with Bebe. United scouts from that part of the world have a fairly decent track record of finding young players with huge POTENTIAL. A certain Cristiano Ronaldo springs to mind. He didnt turn out to be too bad. With any young players time will tell. Speaking of talent young Diouf looked the part the other night for Blackburn, before he ran out of legs, and Macheda scored a blinder for the reserves in Ferdinands comeback. If they all come good United will not need to be spending the sort of crazy money some clubs are willing to for quite some time.
Sparkles
I think Uniteds squad was as expected. What it does for English football at a national level still escapes me. I wish there was more information on Hargreaves ,like a monthly bulletin. He hasn't played for what 2 years? Would have been ,in my opinion, a natural for the captaincy position for England to. Medically speaking a phsio wouldnt have a clue about this, a Pulmonolgist might, but judging by his performances of late they arent helping. But as someone who smokes stinking cigarettes occasionally and keeps fit, im almost certain that there is no way on gods earth that a few a day or a few several times a week should one train frequently do no harm. Amazing numbers. You can see why Wenger is paid so much. And Man City is so totally outrageous GBP34m per player (at 11 players.) It is a total scam. Interesting to see Chelsea so low and that spending stopped so long ago. So Tottenham have been net spending most but they have been declaring profits from player transactions. Their capitalized intangibles (players) have risen from GBP30m to GBP120m and liabilities from GBP70m to GBP230m. That is as June 2009.
