Man Utd: Ryan Giggs & Phil Neville join coaching staff

Manchester United have named Ryan Giggs as player-coach with Phil Neville set to become their new first-team coach.

Giggs, who is 40 in November, and former player Neville are the latest additions to new manager David Moyes' backroom team at Old Trafford.

More to follow.

Are you sure there not bringing him back to play in midfield biggrin.png

If you are content with Ryan Giggs and Phil Neville as your first team coach, then who am I to cast aspirtions giggle.gif

All I can say, as a City fan, is that I am delighted that you have chosen such experienced and highly qualified coaches clap2.gif

Hahaha!!

i am happy that you are happy Jack! oh who are city's coaches btw?

Brian Kidd, first team coach. He hasnt done too badly.

The other guy is Pellegrinis right hand man. Cant remember his name, but he is Argentinian and has been with him at Valencia, Madrid and Malaga.

I would say between them they have a little bit more COACHING experience than Giggs and Neville.

I sense some very nervous Rags right now. Gone are the days when talented youngsters wanted to play under the great man to improve themselves.

Life after Ferguson was always going to be toughwink.png

As somebody who has been a Man U supporter for over fifty five years I basically have to agree with you Carmine that I think these are the wrong appointments for these roles at this moment in time.

I have to say though, that, within the game the Everton schoolboy and youth academies are recognized as among the best there is in England and have a very good reputation. So, with David Moyes now there, I think youngsters will still see Man U as the place to be to improve their talent. I don't see a problem with being able to attract the best of the young talent available.

But, as I've said on here before, although I think Moyes is a very good manager, my one concern is that he's not the right person to be able to attract top (world class) players to Man U and I fear we may lose out when there's competition for a top class player from other top European clubs.

Giggs is undoubtedly admired, well respected and held in the highest esteem throughout the world as a player but, like Neville, he has no proven coaching experience, so, for me, making these appointments to the first team coaching set up will make it even harder to attract those world class players.

To have generally kept the first team coaching set up in place initially would, I think, have made things much more stable over the initial transition period and allowed future coaching changes to be made with virtually no disruption over the next couple of years, while Giggs and Neville would gain experience and a coaching reputation.

But who am I to suggest we've changed things much too quickly. I just hope I am wrong. Time will tell.

Sumrit ....Steve Round and Moyse will be doing the coaching as they did at Everton with the other two guys they have brought from there too.

Neville and Giggs will be still doing there badges and learning the trade while also being a buffer between the players and coaching team, makes sense to me to let them learn under a very good coaching and management team.

As you said yourself Everton"s youth set up is very well respected within the game and when would be a good time to appoint two inexperienced coaches? i think now when we have a whole new coaching set up at the club, two players who also know the club very well and have played under the best to impart his philosophy onto the players is a correct decision now, although at first i was also a bit shocked that Neville was appointed but after thought think it is not a bad decision.

Fark me Red, if they got a paedophile in as a coach, you'd say " he'll do a great job coaching the kids" biggrin.png

It is a fact Jack that Ryan Giggs has won more honors on his own than City have as a club in there history cheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif now that is worth laughing at isn't it? biggrin.png come to think of it maybe Phil Neville as probably won as much as a player as your club has in its history also!! cheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif

As Red stated Jack both these guys have won more honours in the game as players than City as a club can ever dream of and ask yourself why? They will contribute tremendous knowledge/loyalty/experience in their personal desire to keep this great club fighting for honours in the future-its called STABILITY something MCFC have never heard about-your "management/coaching" team consists of a bunch of foreigners with zilch knowledge of the EPL-the only motivation for them consists of the monetary rewards they may-or more likely, may not receive if sucessfull-they care nothing for your club, but trying to make a City fan understand why they have little as far as honours to show in the past 50 years that I have been a RAG is nigh on impossible-you just don,t get it- STABILITY STABILITY STABILITY thumbsup.gif

Yes Utd fans like to bark on about stability, keeping managers longterm and all that other made up fantasy talk but the truth is you just happened to find a manager that made himself unsackable and up till his appointment and i believe and after he's retired you were no different to other clubs and neither will you be either.

You talk about stability as if you stuck with ferguson through barren years. He was just very fortunate Robbins scored that goal or he would have been out on his arse.

Stability? Hmmm.

The only reason your club has had stability is because Fergie was there for so long. So yes, I accept that for the past 26 yrs you had stability and were successful.

The fact is that now City are in the ascendency and United are in decline.

You now have a manager who has won NOTHING as a manager. Giggs and Neville havent even earned their coaching badges yet, let alone coach anybodylaugh.png .

There is a huge difference between playing and coaching, but if you think that being a 'loyal' player with experience of playing in the premiership, means that you will automatically become a first class coach, then knock yourself out! I dont want to rain on your parade.laugh.png

But if you think you are now 'stable', I think Moyes will last 2 years at most, win nothing, and be on his way. But thats stable I guessgiggle.gif

Jack, Moyes is highly unlikely to make it past christmas next year unless the board are ok with the club scrapping to stay in the top four. nice bloke, good capable manager, hopelessly out of his depth with this appointment

I think the main reason Moyes got the job is the same reason why it could just as well have gone to Smokie.wink.png
