Don't know why you're saying <deleted> Smokie. If you take the time to read my post properly you'll see I've suggested exactly the same as what you've said. I just recognize that Moyes is a good manager, but not the right one.

I'm repeating what I said weeks ago, saying that despite Moyes being a good coach, to entice the top players, as well as being one of the top clubs in Europe you need a proven manager with a world wide reputation as well (which is what Bayern have done in appointing Guardiola).

In appointing Moyes we may have appointed a very good coach but I fear he's not somebody who will attract the really best players to Man U.

Thiago has already stated he chose Bayern because Guardiola is the manager and I fear that scenario will keep repeating itself.

Ronaldo has, for example, recently come out and said now is not the right time to move. He wasn't saying that before SAF announced his retirement.

And despite rumours over recent months that Fabregas is unhappy at Barcelona, after Man U reportedly made an offer, he's publicly said he wants to stay.

Is that clear enough for you Smokie?

Another long term target, Kevin Strootman is going to Roma.

I know we like to keep quiet until a deal is complete but, other than Modric, I think almost everybody else is spoken forsad.png .

Very true and this is whats so strange because the club has said theres a lot of money to spend. I can only presume they are talking to Modric or Utd have something up their sleeve because its very very quiet out there

Is their any fuc_king Spanish midfielders that are available and want to come to United?

As I said here when Moyes was appointed, if there was another top team (with a top class manager) competing with United for a world class player, would that player choose to play for Moyes. I feared they wouldn't.

I hope I'm wrong, and it's early days at the moment, but that appears to be happening.

I still think Moyes is a very good coach but worry that he'll have to prove himself capable with the 'big boys' first before the really top class players will want to come.

As a long standing Rag any player who plays for United should want to play-irrespective of who the manager is-the history and standing of this great club should be ALL important,Moyes will prove himself to be a great sucessor to SAF of that I have no doubt thumbsup.gif

Your history and standing doesn't mean as much as the individual's best interest these days....money and medals.....where it's gotten doesn't matter as much

Quiet in public, yes.

I think there's a lot of clubs vying for only a few players, and it creates a chain "we sell that one, we have to buy this one".

Like I said, start hitting this page at five minutes before the deadline.

It's got some great fairy stories, I thought the Star and the Mail were bad. Marca are reporting that Atletico have agreed terms with Cazorla and now need to talk to Arsenal to agree a fee.

No tapping up there then.

With all the knockbacks United are getting, I would think the only chance of someone saying 'yes' to them, would be The Man From Del Montelaugh.png

He's not a midfielder by any chance is he. Cos all of thier young uns coming through their world beating academy don't seem quite "ripe" yet tongue.png

Manchester United excite fans in Australia - with 17,000 buying tickets to watch a training session

The Premier League champions are to play an A-League All Star XI on Saturday

While frenzied discussions over the future of Wayne Rooney and possible transfer targets swirled around the Internet, it was business as usual for Manchester United on their lucrative trip to Australia today.

After training, most of the squad opted for a round of golf, whale watching on the Pacific Ocean or a trip to Sydney's Taronga Zoo as they continue the build-up to Saturday's second match of their pre-season tour.

That the match, against an A-League All Star XI captained by Brett Emerton, is already an 84,000 sell-out is testament to the interest the English champions have attracted on their first visit to Australia since 1999.

In fact, with 17,000 of the 20,000 tickets available to watch United's training session on Friday already snapped up, a bigger crowd was expected for that than most games in the powerhouse National Rugby League (NRL), a Football Federation Australia (FFA) spokesman pointed out.

There were slim pickings for die-hard United fans keen to make the most of the presence of their heroes in Sydney on Wednesday, however, but a couple of hundred got the chance to meet Rio Ferdinand at a book shop.

The price of the meeting was the A$40 ($36.93) purchase of a copy of the central defender's new book "Rio, my decade as a Red" and the red-shirted fans were more than happy to pay it.

"It's fantastic to see the fans getting the chance to meet the players and so on," said Mark O'Connor, chairman of the Manchester United Supporters Club New South Wales, clutching his copy.

"I'm not getting much sleep at the moment ... it shows the rest of the world that Man U is as big Down Under as it is on the other side."

'ICING ON THE CAKE'

While the club's motivation for the five-match pre-season tour is clear - get in touch with their fans in the Asia-Pacific and bank a few million dollars - the traffic is not all one way.

Soccer has long trailed rugby league in New South Wales, Australian Rules in Victoria as well as rugby union nationwide in the pecking order of football codes.

But the arrival of United and Liverpool, who play in Melbourne next week, have helped maintain the profile of the round-ball game at the end of a stellar season for the local A-League and recent success for the national team.

"In terms of media exposure for this kind of thing, the interest has been unprecedented," the FFA spokesman added.

"And coming after the Socceroos qualified for the World Cup last month, this is just the icing on the cake."

For the rest of Wednesday in Sydney at least, however, soccer and United will take second billing behind the third game in the State of Origin rugby league series between New South Wales and Queensland.

The United players will be at the match at the sold-out Olympic Stadium to see if New South Wales can win the interstate bragging rights for the first time since 2005.

That is almost as long as Rooney has been at United and a straw poll of the fans in the Sydney book shop on Wednesday indicated most were resigned to the fact that his spell at the club was coming to a close.

The 27-year-old striker was sent home from the tour with a hamstring injury and is, according to British media reports, "angered and confused" by new manager David Moyes's hint he would not be first choice this season.

"I'd love him to settle down and see out his days at Old Trafford," O'Connor added. "But if he's not happy, just let him go."

No doubts moyes is on a learning curve, but as for players being put off because its moyes not ferguson , overstated imo, people quoting thaigo/ going 2 bayern, he was always gonna pic pep over ANYONE else, how many years had they worked 2 gether, and as for attracting world class stars LOL, that really aint man utd, I hate to say it, but they r a proper club, unlike their noisey neighbors , utd have a 'plan' not totally based short term and round the cheque book, they tend 2 buy talent young promising and push them on, smalling jones saha ect ect and with the occasional yooth player thrown in like cleverly,, there will be a bedding in for mosey and sure her'll hit evrton for players, lots of managers go bac and raid their prev clubs if they think the players will be able to do a job 4 their new club, 1 thing that will always be there to help out and make sure man utd compete, the large cheque book, utd pay TOP DOLLAR when needed aka vp, but there's an up to this though GOOD TO SEE a bit of nerves creeping in, far far to annoyingly arrogant for far far to long, biggrin.png

With respect petermik there are many clubs with a history and a reputation in Europe. Not just United.

Some of them have exceptionally capable managers too. Managers that they have either played for or played against in the Champions League.

10 Million plus Mata??

For Rooney...and United turned them down....now that really is outrageous rolleyes.gif

I read the same article.

In all seriousness, that sounds a great offer for United.

Mata was one of the PL stars last season and they need a midfielder.

I cant believe it was turned down.......................if it is true

You are having a giraffe, rijiit!!

Smalling, Jones, Saha?????? Push them on???

All 3 are/were walking sick notes.

A combined 9 seasons between them with a total of about 170 appearances.

I think a better example of buying young and talented youngsters and pushing them on are players like Veron or Taibi or Blanc or Kleberson or Djemba Djemba or Bebe or Cruyf or Anderson who is still being pushedclap2.gif

Interesting, the one person linked to Man Utd that really wanted Modric was Ferguson yet you and so many other Utd fans are so dismissive. Go figure. I'm starting to think you lot really know jack sh!t without the guidance of Mr Ferguson. its so bloddy obvious Modric is a great fit for you yet you can't see it and you are still talking pie in the sky ideas of signings that will never happen. If i'm wrong of course i'll hold my hands up but unless you are offering him some kind of world record salary package Fabfregas is a pipe dream.

Very tough times ahead i'm afraid Ed. Stability stability stabilitythumbsup.gif

Yep I remember Bellion.

But Macheda doesnt count, I thought he was your youth player? Rijiit specifically refers to players you bought.

Prunier and Miller, I have no clue who they may be. Probably part of your yoouff system.whistling.gif
