NanLaew
...or something lost in translation. If the edict is inspired by the ignorance called homophobia, then they are idiots because katoeys, third-sex... whatever you want to call them aren't homosexual. However, based on global estimates, one in thirty males is homosexual but they are darn hard to spot at school assembly in the morning unless they forget to take off the stilletos. Baerboxer
Somewhat difficult to level a charge of sex discrimination when, no matter how you toss it, there are only two sides to any coin. Don't forget the edge!
chooka
To be fair to the Ladyboys, they are entitled to professional careers, I would imagine that many would be excellent teachers. It's far better to give the third sex the chance to be positive role models in Thai society, and an act of cruelty to deny them a chance to live normal fulfilling lives. I thought there was only two sexes, male and female. When did God create the 3rd sex? I must have missed the launch. I have heard of males, females and amaphradites but what go you call this 3rd sex thing. Why don't these ladyboys just register as male the way they were born and dress like men and get thier qualifications. Stop pretending to be women for awhile until after school and after graduation. Then they can put on thier frilly dresses and lipstick and apply for a job. Edited June 8, 2012 by chooka

JoeLing
I have absolutely no problems with people's sexuality and it's absolute stupid that some good people loose their jobs or careers because of their inclination. It's no one's business what people do in private if they don't harm anyone. Never mind if homosexual, lesbians, trans sexual, transvestites or whatever. I have no problem if the Pope is gay, Clinton getting a blowjob or MP's looking at porn but that are things that should stay in private and not in public. If a hippie wants to work in a bank, he will need to dress and behave accordingly. A transvestite Pilot will most likely not get a job if he turns up in high heels for his job interview. So if a katoi wants a male job, dress and behave accordingly and I'm pretty sure, he stands a chance to get the job. Otherwise, he should apply for a job at CP-Air or a bar in Pattaya if he/she/it has to demonstrate their inclination in public.
softgeorge
Abide by the rules of the school, if you are a man then don't wear your frilly pink nickers, your stockings and highheels and prounce around like a fairy when it is not allowed. Abide by the dress codes and the code of conduct, in this case act like a man, study hard and you should have no problems. You can pull out the bra and knickers when you have finished your degree. You are the one who wants to attend the institution, it is not the institution begging you to come. Edited June 8, 2012 by softgeorge

JoeLing
Margaret Ann Bulkley/James Barry supposedly lived her life long as a man in order to pursue her career. Jerry Bailey's sex change didn;t stop him/her from her political ambitions. I'm sure, if this "Third Sex" person really, really wanted to study, there would have been easier ways to achieve that then going to the media and make a big fuss. The 3rd sex goes back to the 1700's and was a term that the mollies (better known as homosexuals today) refered to themselves as. It is not a distinct sex in itself but was a term used to describe the homosexual community. Today you have the gay community back then it was the 3rd sex community, still the same animal just a different name. kerryk
Do you think there would be enought support for a float by the 3rd sex people who were turned away from that school by Thai Visa Members to participate in that Aussie parade? That parade could be a bully pulpit for the plight of third sex trainees from Bangkok. I would suggest Amrica but the air fare is a lot more and Australia is so much closer and that parade bigger than anything in the States. After all Thailand has a lot to learn from other more advanced countries like Australia about being, well you know... more PC and stuff.

That is the mob from Sydney, we from Melbourne and other cities do not associate with New South Welshmen and that little float festival thingy is the only thing Sydney has on each year. All the major international events are held in Melbourne. Edited June 9, 2012 by softgeorge

True they can still get thier teaching degrees but not at this school unless they abide by a dress code and a code of conduct. It is very simple if you do not like the rules of this school go to another and don't expect an entire institution to change for a monority group. Abide by the rules and attend this school if you wish.

It's a complex issue with different meanings across cultures, and also over the course of history. In the modern context, generally modern gay people would not relate to being identified as third sex, and rather would consider that related to transgendered individuals. In many countries, homosexuals and transgendered people have allied themselves politically as the fight against discrimination against sexual minorities applies to both groups.http://en.wikipedia....ki/Third_gender Interestingly in Thailand, it seems to me, the majority of political activism for sexual minority civil rights seems to come mostly from "ladyboys" and much less so from homosexuals with no gender identity issues. I think that is very unusual in the world today. Edited June 10, 2012 by Jingthing
