January 10, 201412 yr Amazing the cost for a couple of minutes operation. Yep! but consider how long and at what expense it took the surgeon to master the trick. And then the cost of a modern operating theatre plus nurses, anasethics.........think about it ! Makes the work of Fred Hollows even more outstanding. http://www.hollows.org.au/ http://www.det.act.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0020/307424/Fred_Facts_sheet_docx_1.pdf A true Australian even if he was a kiwi a great man. January 10, 201412 yr I just received a reply from the Rutnin clinic - that was quick - I was expecting to have to wait several days. Anyway, FYI Thank you very much for being interested in our hospital. Regarding your question about Cataract Surgery, all of our surgeons do Cataract Surgery with the Phaco Emolsification Method. The estimated cost of the operation is aboutTHB 60,000-65,000 per eye (not including the medication). However, the patient needs to come to the hospital for a primary eye check up first (THB 1,500-2,000). If the operation is needed, it can be done on the next day. Full deposit of total estimated surgery cost requires to be placed on surgery date. After surgery, the patient needs to stay in Bangkok for 1-2 weeks for the post operative follow up. Hospital admission is not needed for this type of surgery. For patients who require a short hospital stay after surgery, we provide modern and comfortable rooms, including private or VIP, and with 24 hour nursing care. We have 4 kinds of rooms: Shared rooms THB 3,050 per day Standard rooms THB 4,650 per day Deluxe rooms THB 5,050 per day VIP rooms THB 7,000 per day Please inform us of convenient dates and times in order to make an appointment for you. You may contact us by email at: [email protected] or by telephone at (66)2 639-3300 Extension 1 or 619 (press “1” or “619”). Best regards, Information Department Why one or two weeks in hospital ? In the UK, 2001 I had retina reattachment and was in hospital for three days.

I think the hospital suggestion is for people who may have other problems and need care which makes their stay outside preferable or would feel more comfortable with a few hours in hospital. FOr instance as most know I have severe COPD and when I had my eye ops done in Australia free under medicare they kept me in for the first night each time as it would be easier for me. I would not stay in a hospital here as who knows what the bill will be once they get you in their rooms. Edited January 10, 201412 yr by harrry
January 10, 201412 yr That appears to be there normal price for last year or so as I was checking when my wife had both eyes operated on (different times) at Vejthani Hospital where cost was fixed 35k each for single focus lens/cataract removals. Yes Rutnin is considered a very good choice for eye care.
January 11, 201412 yr Thanks for the comments and confirmation, I have passed the details of the Rutnin onto him.

Best regards, Information Department Here is a good example of inflation in Thailand. One year ago January 2013, I wrote to Rutnin and asked for the cost of Cataract surgery on one eye, the reply was 41,000B, now they are saying 60 to 65,000B. Also tell you friend to double check his appointment. I made a appointment to see a certain Dr, I did this by email which was confirmed, I phoned the day before to check on my appointment only to be told that they had no record of my appointment....<deleted>,
