pokerkid
I will be driving from chiang mai to chiang rai and back . What are nice roads that are not too busy with nice scenery ?
Fishenough
What type of conveyance? Take the 107 to Fang, continuing on the 1089 to Mae Chan just north of Chiang Rai is a nice route. Nicer than the route to Pai, and it's rare to see those death buses, ie.silver tour vans. This northern route, to Mae Chan, is only a dozen or so kilometers longer but will require more travel time. If your on 2 wheels, and don't mind good condition dirt roads you could follow the iron bridges to Mae Khachan. I rode this route last May 13, on street tires, and with the slightly higher river levels this route becomes a motorcycle or 4x4 route only. jubby
do the trip to fang and then to mae chan as mentioned by fishenough. could always take in the Maesalong loop if you've not done it before. it would be a shame not to.

The man Jubby makes sense. And on the way back to CM you could do the scenic route to Phayao, road toThoeng then turn to Pa Daet, then the lovely 120 from Phayao over to the 118 and back to CM. Done that whole route numerous times and it never gets any less enjoyable (weather permitting lol) I'm agreement, do the whole route.

Fishenough
Done that whole route numerous times and it never gets any less enjoyable (weather permitting lol) I'm agreement, do the whole route. Good point, 2 up returning from a Mae Sai run, we hit some windy rainy weather on the 1089 and encountered a large amount of debris on the road. Our travel time was so slowed down we ended up staying the night in Fang. Agreed take the 120 also, it a great high speed road for your CBR. The only down side to the 120 is it goes by too quickly.....

RidersCorner
You'll find that most experienced superbike riders (1,000cc sports bikes) will tell you that R 120 that joins Mae Kachan (R118) to Phayao (R1) is one of the best roads for those bikes in north Thailand. The curves arn't too tight and you can carry lots of speed through them. If you have time, take the 120. That route never gets old How right you are in fact do the 120 twice.
