Has anyone used www.railway.co.th ?

I am trying to check some fares, after putting in the departure and arrival points on the top left hand corner, some train nos. and fares appear; when I further click on the "fares", the fares appear with "click here, show fees" below it. Is this not the final fare ? Further click and it showed in Thai, do I have to make my own calculations to add all the extras ?

On the train types fee - are there 2 types of fees to add ? The train(1st 3) and the distance(below 4 types).

I am looking at train no. 41 from Hatyai to Bangkok. Looks like that is the only train that takes less than 12 hrs which is as fast as the bus, any mistake on that ?

Please don't advise me to travel by air which is not much more; or bus which is faster and cheaper.

likely this is the daily sprinter, starting Yala-barring ay rebellious acts, which is not much more as a bus on rails: no sleeper, only 2nd cl AC seats. But you may or may not get thrown in a few riceboxes or tiny airline style cups of softdrink,.

Trains are never (well-in >98%) on time anyway.

I do not believe very much in online SRT. The fare as such is:

1. base fare, for 3d/2nd/1st cl.

2.suplmt for rapid/express/super express

3.suplmt for AC-if chosen

4.any price for sleeper-depends again on type of car, ttype of train, AC or not, upper or lower.

I wish there would be some special site for the trainbuffs- so they can stay among themselves and not bore others too much with their exclamations on how good/fast/cheap/safe/whatever those trains play in their minds

Avoid the "41" or any other Special Express. They are dirty, colder than your fridge (when the aircon works), seats often can't be adjusted and some are locked in the reclining position. Go for one of the "Rapid" night trains. They are not very rapid, but the second class beds (particularly the lower ones which tend to be sold out first) are comfortable, you can buy food and drink on the way and you'll be able to watch a beautiful sunrise over the rice fields in Petchaburi or thereabouts.
