Looking For Place To Rent In Ko Lanta For 6Months

Hey guys. My girfriend and I plan to move to Ko Lanta in December to stay for approx 6 months. Does anyone have any suggestions on apartments to rent for our duration there? We are not too bothered about luxury etc, just somewhere with a bedroom, lounge, kitchen and bathroom. If possible can any of youse give me an estimated cost at what the monthly rent would be? I know this solely depends on the accomodation but I would just like an estimate for somewhere basic. If anyone has anything or available or knows anyone can you please help out. Thanks in advance for any reply.

Jamie Lanta in December is very expensive ... Mid range 1 or 2 bedroom apartments that rent for 13,000 Baht a month in low season are up to 25,000 Baht a month in the 4/5 month high season. More expensive apartments double in price up to 120,000 Baht. You could not go at a worse time. The island is a Scandinavian Haven from November to April thus like Ao Nang the prices are very high. There are some small apartments but they are pretty grotty and in high season are around 15,000 Baht. Lanta has a certain appeal but .... Little things soon get to annoy. The 2 ferry crossings which in total take close to an hour or more are a novelty at first and then become a nuisance as is the limited shopping facilities... That said I enjoyed my stay there...

Thanks for your reply. Well if we cant find anything at a reasonable price then we will just stay in a small bungalow for our duration. We were planning on going over, staying in a cheap bungalow until we find somewhere bigger at a reasonable cost. Hoping to look about, ask locals etc for a good deal seeing as we will be wanting to rent for months. We have already visited Lipe, Phi Phi and Libong. Lipe and Phi Phi are even more expensive so thats why we chose Lanta. Libong is lovely but not ideal for a long stay. If you advise against Lanta, do you have any other suggested locations? We will be heading over start Dec. Cheers.

I searched all over Lanta for reasonably priced bungalows and apartments for rent in the high season which is your arrival time and failed miserably. I was forced to leave the island as I refused to pay the high prices being asked. I was actually there from April to November and still could not find something suitable. The low season it is possible to rent more cheaply. A bungalow that could be rented in Phuket for 15,000 baht per month would be 28,000 in Lanta (High Season) and 45,000 Baht in high season. Samui would be cheaper in Ko Chang... And if you dont have to stay on an island Khanom & Sichon are nice indeed Krabi Town is an option ....

Hey. Yeah I think Krabi is a good option. We were there for a night and found the town lovely. I f this prices are as you say then I think we will give Lanta a miss. If we decide to stay in Krabi then it has the port with easy access to the islands so I think Krabi is looking more likely. Would you say it is much cheaper in Krabi compared with Lanta? Also, do you think it will be fairly easy to find an apartment when we go over in December. As for the other places you mentioned, I havent been there so thats why I think Krabi will be the safer option but if you have any suggestions otherwise then we could maybe check out these places. Would they be worth it or do you recommend Krabi? Krabi has a great location and everything we will need. So do you think we could find a decent apartment with lounge, bedroom and kitchen for under £200 per month (approx 10,000baht)??? Thanks again.

Yes Krabi is a great option... Has the airport. International flights. Lotus and Big C for shopping.. Great markets esp the night market. Ferries to Phuket, Phi Phi, Langkawi etc. You will however have to start looking around now for a place to rent. Yes I think you can find a place for 10,000 Baht. There are some decent hotels like the Greenery for 600 Baht a night and I have seen apartments and bungalows for rent at this monney but that was 18 months ago. Search on the internet and I'm sure you will find something and if the worst comes to the worst Krabi town is not affected by high and lo season as much as elsewhere so if you dont find a place online you could stay in ths Greenery until you do. I drove around and found various places in the town. But stay away from the agents if you can. Try and link with local Thai's

Is their any type of local transportation. Tuk Tuk Songtell type in Krabi. I walk mostly and doubt I would be able to find the place I like within walking Distance . Beach shopping centers restaurants and that includes McDonald's.

I suppose asking about a movie theater would be a little bit far out.

Big C & Tesco are outside the town which is the norm they are the shopping centers. There are Tuk Tuks and Songtaew's too. But no McDonalds as far as I know? No beach and no movie theater but hundreds of good restaurants. There is a touristy area down by the ferries where back packers hang out. Your lucky you did not go to Lanta it has absolutely nothing! I would suggest you rent a motorbike.

Hey Nip thanks for your help. As for the reply to the questions on theatre, Macdonalds etc. that wasnt myself asking that. I dont care for Macdonalds and I am not travelling to Thailand from Scotland to eat Macdonalds and go to cinema lol. I can do as much of that as I like at home. I honestly think these establishments spoil areas.

What I would like to know is if you know of any good websites I could start looking for apartments? Dont you think I may find a hidden gem (and cheaper) if we travel over, look for a place whilst over by asking about, asking the locals etc?

Thanks again, its much appreciated!
