Can you be more specific on the time of your arrival, so we can prepare the red carpet? smile.png

Smokie will be arriving in at 18.30 hours on Saturday 21st July, I'll be in a few hours earlier. I reckon by the time we get washed and polished it will be going on 9.00.

We leave on the early morning flight to BKK/Samui on the 26th, so we are in your hands until then. biggrin.png

I want to show Smokie around a bit so anyone that doesn't fancy drinking with us is more than welcome to join us of a day time, we'll need to go to Doi Suthep as it's a criminal offence to be in CM and not go up there, at this point I can hear you groaning " Not Doi Suthep again", the only other daytime place I need to visit is Baan Tawai, that won't take long though, so if anyone fancies lunch any day or some other idea then great wai.gif

Well, I only drink at day times, no point in waiting for the dark hours. tongue.png

some ideas....(not all might appeal to you boys)

1. yes Doi Suthep - interesting architecture, good view (if no smog :) )

2. Try a 'kan toke' traditional northern style dinner (you dont necessarily have to go for the pricey tourist places, your GF should be able to take you to a few other)

3. Doi Inthanon - for a bit more of nature (waterfalls, trekking, beautiful scenery...not sure but I think it would have cooled down slight by then...but if raining, then maybe not the best). its about 80km from CM though, so would need a full day. or you could go camping there....should also be possible to rent a room from the national park ...I think there is one there...but will be limited availibility. Ask your GF to check and book ahead. Ahh wait, they ahve gone hi-tech and have a website: http://www.thaiforestbooking.com/np_home.asp?npid=1&lg=2

4. Lots of lanna style temples around town. Most are older than the ones you see in Bangkok, and also quite different in appearance (CM is at least 700 years old, and many of the temples date back prior)

5. Go the night market for crafty stuff. Or check out the Waroros market in the morning for knick knacks and food stuff (local delicacies - the various 'nam prik')

rest of the time - spend eating and drinking, get some thai massage,

I've never been to Doi Inthanon, I think I'll make a point of going there weather permitting, I understand it can be quite cloudy at times up there, which seems to defeat the purpose of going. rolleyes.gif

I will insist on Smokie seeing some culture and doing some worthy trips. When I can get him sober. burp.gif

ps.........my gf is delighted you suggested the kan toke thumbsup.gif

Erm ... Glasgow is reputed to be the best place, to see the lesser-striped tartan-blether, in its natural habitat ? tongue.png

But perhaps that's something we currently lack, here in Chiang Mai, a good Scottish Bar ? Serving tatties & neaps, a wide selection of single-malt drams, and Aberdeen-Angus steaks or Highland-venison on-the-griddle ? An all-you-can-eat porridge buffet for breakfast, deep-fried Mars-bars & Snickers with chips, khao-pat-finnan-kippers for the locals ?

And an in-house live-music pipe-band, lessons in how to strangle play the bagpipes, and how to break into one's sporran when the bill arrives.

We've got Irish-bars, and English-pubs, why not a Scottish one too ?! thumbsup.gif

I've always found that a curiosity Ricardo...the English need to create a "little England" wherever they settle.

I'm sure we will be happy wherever we go....and will mix with any nationality, while enjoying the full range of food available in the city.

I might be persuaded to visit an Irish bar...but only if the live music is top notch.

My perfect bar to visit would have ice cold beer, friendly customers and staff, good people watching spots and live music in the evening. Oh and excellent Thai food.

A Finnan Haddie is pleasant enough for breakfast Ricardo....but there is a better variety served up a few miles south. whistling.gifwhistling.gif

Maybe I'll pack some and bring 'em over with me. tongue.png

No one's yet begged us for haggis or black pudding...or even some decent bacon yet theblether....surely this city must have a truly international smorgasbord! smile.png

I can hardly wait to go exploring....biggrin.png

If you banned food related topics on the CM thread there would be a rebellion!!.........safe to say CM has some of the best food going. I love a lot of the Thai Northern dishes but I can't pronounce them so my Mrs does the ordering for me biggrin.png

An impossible task. Thank God. coffee1.gif

Mr. Blithering. Please do go up to the mountain and freeze your fingers so I don't have to read your completely arrogant and overconfident attitude on this board. You have posted everywhere and on every subject. Please just go and don't make TV your personal social network! Try face book.

I don't want to meet you. What a thoroughly unpleasant post. Lighten up! biggrin.png

That sounds dodgy,

Theblether arrives on Friday, Smokie arrives on Saturday at 19.00. Saturday night we're heading to the restaurant that theblethers Mrs manages, then we'll be rolling down to Johns Place and ZoeinYellows.

I reckon we'll be at Johns Place about 11.30, just checking, what's the current closing times? Is it the usual 1.00am? 2.00am at Zoe?
