I am flying with my 4 year old daughter to the UK on 20th July. My passport doesn't expire until 2020, but hers expires 6th December 2012.

There is no problem flying to the UK on British Airways, because she just needs a valid passport for the duration of the trip.

However we have Non-Imm visas and both will require a re-entry permit.

Does she need 6 months validity on her passport to get a re-entry permit?

If not, will we have any problems flying back into Thailand on the existing passport?

If we get a new passport whilst in the UK - will we have any problems flying in with 2 passports for her - new one now valid, old one with all her visa stamps etc.?

THANKS

Jo

You have single entry 90 day stays and will return before they end? Or do you have extensions of stay until a specific time in the future?

If 90 day stays yes you can obtain a re-entry permit to return and continue that stay as is not permitted to stay until in passports. Only new visa issue from a Consulate would require 6 month validity of passport. If you have extensions of stay the re-entry should also be available up to the date indicated as permitted to stay on her passport (might not be the same as your passport depending when extension obtained).

Thanks Lopburi3,

We got a year non-imm visa from the UK in 2007 and it's been extended since then, still on that original visa.

Current extension expires in January 2013, our next 90 day report is 4 September.

So we should be okay. Our return date is 11th August.

The second issue is that we cannot fly on some airlines within Thailand without 6 months validity. We are going to go ask in the Thai Airways office if they will allow us to fly between CNX and BKK.

However, if we can solve that and then still not get the re-entry permit, then we are stuffed!

Also even if we do get a re-entry we wondered if we'd get any hassle at BKK immigration coming back in August or as we try to board the domestic flight!

So there is a lot to think about. A new passport might be the best way.

thanks again,

How can her extension be to a date beyond her passport validity? That is not allowed. Are you sure about her extension being until January? In any case if extension matches passport expiration date as it should a re-entry permit should be available - if not suspect there may be issues. As re-entry permit seems to be your main issue try to get now (it does not matter what date you put down if you not sure of flight yet).

Am not aware of any six month validity for airline travel and there should not be any such. Any photo ID can be used for domestic travel.

hi again, you are right, her extension is to 6th December, but there is one double stamp that has both the dates 26 Jan 2013 and 6 Dec 2012 on it - presumably to do with the fact that if her passport had been valid for longer, she'd be entitled to stay until 26 Jan 13 and that's what will be put in her new passport to line up with the rest of us.

I think if we go into an airline office we'll be ok to fly domestic, just an issue booking online. Air Asia at least would not let me book. If it was me I could use my Thai drivers license instead, but daughter doesn't have alternate photo ID.

Anyway thanks for you help, really appreciate it.

That stamp probably tells that she is permitted to stay till Dec. 6 and once she has a new passport will receive a permission to stay untill 26 jan. I need a new passport myself this year and have a likewise stamp in my passport.
