Anyone Live In Prachuap Khiri Khan?

This is a place that I always mean to visit but never 'find the time' in transit to visit. I've been to Hua Hin a few times...All the expense of a resort city, none of the fun.

I have a Thai lady friend from PKK and while she like the place and may build a home in time, she has no interest in living there at present.

Anyway - I simply must get out of Pattaya and I'm looking at options. PKK could be one. Downsides are beaches are not number one and has East facing beaches. Pluses are the seafood, beaches look decent, has a port to stroll about.

I'm not looking for much in the ways of falang amenities, in fact, I pretty much live and eat like a Thai - could anyone provide any info pls?

I been there a couple of times and it's a nice place. Bit quiet and except for a handfull of karaoke bars no entertainment whatsoever. No mcdonalds or pizza hut either. They do have two 7/11's and a night market.

The bay with the "Port" is quite beautiful although calling it a Port is stretching it; it's got one pier with a couple of fishing trawlers and that's about it. Seafood is great though and priced very cheap.

You won't see many foreigners except when the occassional tour bus on the way to Phuket makes a stop over and the people spent the night in the hotel. There's one reasonable hotel and a couple of fleabag joints.

Last time i was there the hotel charged 1000baht for a room overlooking the bay and 800 baht for a room overlooking the "mountains" to Burma. Cheaper places go for 300baht/night (no ac).

If you follow the bay north there's a stretch of beach full of thais selling/cooking food and it's great for spending an afternoon eating & drinking on the beach. Except for the occasional jelly fish the sea is ok for swimming but don't expect any tanning chairs cause there ain't any. The people are friendly but the majority doesn't speak english same as in Patters.

There's a military air base as well where they train pilots so you will see some planes in the sky every once in a while.

I suppose for 2000-3000 a month you could rent your own place and if you can keep yourself busy it's a nice city.

Thanks meom and yes, pier not really port to be sure from what I was told. Sounds worth a look, always HH if I need to have a fling at a thing. The no falang thing is quite ok with me actually.

Thanks again.

It's about 30min South as I recall. Trains arrive not close into town (if I recall) and arrive at indecent hrs as HH coming from South on train from HY. Express from Krung Thep is dear.

PKK's OK, but I've never stayed overnight. The beach at Ao Manao (if that's where you're talking about) is very pituresque, although I don't think it's so good for swimming because it's shallow like a lot of the coastline on this side of the Gulf.

From HH, it's easily accessable. Under your own steam, the drive's about an hour - a little more by bus and there are plenty of them.

Another spot worth checking out is Bang Saphang - about half way between PKK and Chumphon. I've stayed in BS Yai a nuber of times. Very quiet, great value and a number of Westerners starting to make it their home as HH expands. Not bad infrastructure and still a favorite of mine for a 2-3 day break.
