Any advice out there on the best? type water filter to install before my water tank from a value and maintenance standpoint. Two people with moderate house usage.

We live in a rural area without government water. Use a mix of well and village water, both sediment prone. We have a MasterFiler setup (dual filtration system - stage one a mix of activated charcoal and various sizes of sand; stage 2 a sediment filter). Works quite well - maintenance? A pain in the butt - reverse flow every week to clean out the crap that has collected. I will assume that is a similar situation to all filtration systems.

It's available at HomePro. Info at http://masterpure.com/index.php/water-filter-products/water-filter-water-atomize-filter.html

How is this one from Australia? Free from maintenance, Reduced water filter costs, Sweet clean water. Water Nymph takes the water from just under the surface not the bottom. It hangs just bellow the water level. Tank would need to be empty to install as someone needs to climb in side and attach it to the tap at the bottom of the tank.Web site www.watersweet.com.au. Found advert in Australian magazine "ReNew" hopew it works for you and anyone else who might be interested..

Scorpio, water treatment is a complex subject and the industry rife with fad-type devices that simply don't work. I recommend lots of research using resources that are reliable.

Filtering/treating your water falls into several categories.

- Filtering out particles

- Reducing scale and hardness (dissolved solids)

- Reducing tastes and odors (created by organics)

- Killing organisms (bacteria, spores, etc)

Each category requires a different type of approach. There were a couple of pretty good water threads in the DIY Housing forum. I recommend reading all of them before spending Bt XX,XXX that may be money thrown away.

Thanks for the advice. Took a look and read all that I could find. Maybe more confused now than before. I do not want to filter for drinking purposes but only filter the water to an acceptable??? level before it goes into the water storage tank which will use a constant pressure water pump to supply pressure to the house. I don' t mind buying drinking water.

I think one of those Sand Filters should be enough, just to take the sediment out. you know the steel tanks that resemble a Boiler or Rocket depending on how you look at things smile.png

About five of my neighbours recently had ones like these installed and so far so good.

Stu, can they be drained by a bug or valve at the bottom?

Just had a quick nose and it does look like they can but my immediate neighbour is out so can't check for sure, will update when I know.
