Does anyone know of any place in or around Korat that has the crack,I mean a good place to get a beer or two with a bit of atmosphere or something that would appeal to the farang.I was going to suggest friendly faces but Thailand is that to the heart.

No. To be quite blunt.

We live in Korat because we like Real Thailand.........

That doesn't mean we don't occasionally miss the odd Farang place, but there just aren't any as you describe.

Of course there's the odd bar like the irish bar next to the Sima Thani; geared to the hotel tourist, high prices, and no customers. And there's one or two 'normal' places with a couple of tables and chairs outside where Farangs will sometimes meet (Mikes for instance with real farang food or the Pizza shop next door for our German comrades, opposite the Isuzu sales centre on I think, Thanon Suranarai). But if you want atmosphere, away from the odd outdoor bar, or karaoke full of young obnoxious Thai youth, suggest you go to one of the hotel or shopping plaza beer gardens.

There are a few places mentioned on this forum if you look through the threads. But no 'Farang atmosphere' (thank Buddah).

Sorry to be so negative, I like Korat the way it is..... :o

Sorry, I got the road right, but there is no Isuzu garage (too much Singha for breakfast....) Mikes bar/restaurant is signposted 'Lebanese Restaurant' and is almost opposite a big blue Phillips Electronics sign.

Lebanese food is excellent, and he does European style also.

The beer is also reasonable prices so the Keeniow Farangs of Korat don't have to moan!!... (only joking).

Hiya,

We stayed at the Sima Thani a few weeks back - which is supposed to be a five star hotel... :o

The first night we had no water at all.... the second night only cold water....hehe...

But according to my friend, who ran away all by himself, says the "Coyote Ugly Bar" was really good.

The others of us went to Speed2 - a good show and loud music... BUT not as good as Speed3 in Surin.

Take care mates... P3

Hi!

Sorry to say this, but if you intend on settling in Korat, FORGET about Farang-stlyle bars and the like!

Korat is NOT BKK or Pataya or Phuket! I've lived here going on 19 years now, and love the true thai aspect of the place. Having said the above, there ARE many restuarants and entertainment venues around, but they ALL cater for the Thai clientelle.

I for one am happy that Korat Is NOT like Krueng Tep,Pattaya or any other area of Thailand that caters to Farang. We enjoy living a "Thai style" life it is GREAT.post-14263-1139363599_thumb.jpg

I dont think that you'll find the guy mentioned anything about "ferang style bars"

I have lived in Khorat for three years and I am a ferang. I know of many bars that would "appeal to a ferang" which is what the guy said. Try Texas Khorat for instance down near the Jao praya hotel or the Rong Na or Blue pavillion - lovely watresses and great atmosphere. And between 5pm and 9pm they have the beer buffet where you pay 159 baht and you can drnk as much beer chang (I know you cant win them all) and eat as much bbq as you want and trust me in four hours you can polish off wuite a lot of beer :-)

All bars in Khorat are for Thai people but there are plently of them which would "Appeal to a ferang" - yes
