I can never understand why people seek general medical advise at a forum like this. ... Use Google instead where you can find sites and/or forums that focus on medical issues and advise. After reading so many inane and misinformed posts here over the past couple of years, I would never recommend anybody use it for a serious medical inquiry.

And once I found out who sponsors and moderates most of the sites and forums you'd find using Google, I'd rather trust a few of the regular posters here.

Not for a definitive diagnosis, but for recommendations as to my next course of action- emergency room, hospital appointment, or down to the local drug store...

I think I understand what you're saying, and I'd be the last person to typically support the medical industry, as we know it, or the big pharma companies.

I'm very interested in your findings. Please share them with us. Sounds like there might be something of a conspiracy going on, and I really enjoy that type of stuff.

I emphasize that especially in a case involving the old ticker (heart). Use Google instead where you can find sites and/or forums that focus on medical issues and advise. for someone like myself who didnt have access to a pc.where do you go,from 1972 to 1990 i was in and out of hospital more times than i can remember,18years of tests the camera had been down my stomach so many times it knew its own way arround,but no one came up with an answer to my problem so in the end you just have to put up with it.before i moved to los seeing a doctor in the uk had become a joke,no more seeing the same one unless you was prepared to wait [weeks] and then you had to be lucky.the doctors as we knew them had become multi practices with many docs.trying to see the same one well was almost impossible,you couldnt make an appointment in advance you had to phone up during the morn/eve.with everyone doing the same it was always engaged so every time you saw a diff. doc.you had to try and explain your problem,they also got a time limit they could see a patient.my practice had one good doc.out of 8-10 you had to camp out ovenight if you wanted to see her.they also had an out of hrs.call center well it just as well could have been set up in india diagnosis on the phone what a joke.when afteralmost 20 years i was prescibed lansoprazole for my stomach at last all the suffering had gone,on reading about the med.and what it treats why why why was i not given this before.so if you cant exchange your experiances with fellow sufferers im afraid you have to put up with it.dont ask me how i had heart surgery which was a life saver that was down to a personel freind[professor.at one of the big hospitals]

I think what a lot of members are looking for, not only on this forum, are shared experiences and possible ways to maybe assist and reassure them, along with how they are dealing / have dealt with their real life whatever and support.

Also on this particular forum they can get information on proven specialist and feed back relating to who best to seek advice and opinions from and hospitals ect. ect. based on personal experience relating to who they have used.

It is always advisable to seek other independant opinions relating to serious health related problems and again you can get proven first hand guidance on who to see and were best to go from our members.

Google is of course a great facility to search for alternatives but personally I find many of their leads financially orientated and not always offering free valued in depth advice, unless you pay for it up front without knowing the quality of their services.

While I do not wish to be selfishly promoting a thread I am active in, please look at the following as a one recent example of many, what can be gleaned from using this forum re personal knowledge and experience.

Sheryl by the way is well respected and a proven source of high quality advice based on her medical knowledge and experiences.

We the members compliment this with our added input.....hopefully making a positive contribution towards it.

IMHO it is always advisable to get other opinions on the serious matters to compliment what you have been offered / what has been posted on the forum.
