There is a meeting in Parliament on the 9th July about the forthcoming changes to the family migration rules. If you feel strongly about the changes, then this is your chance to let your MP know, and to ask your MP to represent you at the meeting. Details are :

The new family migration rules: dividing families, disrupting integration

When: 9 Jul 2012 - 18:30 - 20:00

Where: Committee Room 1, House of Lords, Parliament, London

The government has recently announced significant rule changes on family migration to the UK from outside the EU. From this date, people seeking to bring their spouse or partner, children and other close dependants to join them to the UK will face new barriers to family life here.

This meeting, which will be chaired by Lord Judd, will hear from parliamentarians from across the political parties, family and children's charities, migrant groups and individuals who would be affected by the rule changes. It will be an opportunity to consider the implications of the new rules for family life - and the disproportionate impacts on certain communities - into the future.

But this is no ordinary meeting, it’s a chance to effect change. We want you to come along to Parliament early, arrange to see your MP, tell them your story or your concerns, invite them to the meeting. This is your chance to show your representatives where they are going wrong.

The meeting will be preceded by a public demonstration outside the Home Office, which will begin at 4.30pm.

Tentative running order of things for the day is:

4.30pm - 5pm Demo at Home Office, (2 Marsham Street, SW1P 4DF)

5.30pm - 6.15pm Chance for individuals to arrange a one-to-one meeting with their MPs in the The Central Lobby of Parliament

6.30pm Main Meeting in Committee Room 1 (House of Lords)

I will be back in the UK with my Thai wife on a Family Visa from 4 July. I'll try to see my MP, Andy Burnham, he was in the last Labour Cabinet, before the end of the week to lobby him.

He knows a bit about immigration from his days at the Home Office when he was PPS to David Blunket, I think he was also in charge of the ill fated ID Card scheme.

He spoke about immigration on Question Time a couple of weeks ago.
