Dragonair launches inaugural flight from Hong Kong to Chiang Mai

CHIANG MAI, 2 July 2012 (NNT) – The Chiang Mai governor and Dragonair executives yesterday welcomed passengers from Dragonair’s inaugural flight from Hong Kong to Chiang Mai province at Chiang Mai International Airport.

Dragonair announced in March that it would launch flights to Chiang Mai, starting from July 1 until the middle of October. He said the flights would be operated between Hong Kong and Chiang Mai four times a week on Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.

To celebrate the inaugural flight, 165 passengers from Hong Kong yesterday received a warm welcome from Chiang Mai Governor ML Panadda Diskul, Dragonair CEO Patrick Yeung and Chinese Consul General to Chiang Mai Zhu Weimin as well as other Dragonair top executives upon their arrival.

Mr Yeung said the new route between the two cities allows passengers to access Dragonair’s network of over 160 destinations around the world. The flights are currently being offered as a seasonal service between July 1 and October 14, with A320 aircraft being used for the route.

ML Panadda also said that Dragonair’s new direct flight from Chiang Mai to Hong Kong helps residents, expats and tourists in Chiang Mai to avoid traffic congestion at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport and allows them to connect to onward flights for the U.S., Canada, Japan and South Korea.

Dragonair is a subsidiary of Cathay Pacific, Hong Kong's flag carrier.
