Uk Marriage Registration - Problem With Thai Divorce Certiicate

Featured Replies

Hi,

My partner has come to the UK on a fiance visa. I've booked a marriage in the registrars office. I've submitted her original divorce certificate to be checked. I was due to get married on Monday but this has been cancelled due to queries with the divorce. I've now completed a form containing 3 question about the divorce. The 3 questions asked about whether the divorce was through the courts or mutual consent, were both parties in Thailand at the time o signature and finally was there any form of registration needed of the divorce outside the country.

Has anybody encountered a prob like this? is this normal? The divorce was mutually consented and the certificate is the original and legal. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Was there a certified translation? if not it may be that the registrar wants a translation. It is his or her responsibility to check that you are free to marry.

I suspect checking the legality of the divorce is the issue and that nobody at the registrars office has experience of Thai!

Hi,

The divorce certificate was translated to English. They routinely sent it to head office and came back with that response. I'm going to wait or their reply. Anyone have a problem like this?
