Hi there, I do realise that there is a current thread about Hong Kong which I have been following for suggestions on things to do and places to see. I have another request and that is help on finding a hotel and in what area is best to stay which is not to expensive but is relatively central.

Is it possible to get a nice, clean and secure hotel for £50 GBP per night or less?

Thank you.

Try the IBIS in North Point, just up from Causeway Bay, it wont be fifty quid a night but it'll be one of your cheaper options, unless you want to stay in Chung King Mansions in Kowloon, scary!

Google search "YWCA The Building" and see what their rates are. This YWCA is located next to The University of Hong Kong in the mid-levels area of Hong Kong island. Rates will vary depending on how long you plan to stay, the type of room you want and how full the place is. I stayed there for 2 weeks while doing some work at the U. of Hong Kong and found the location to be fine and the rooms clean. Furnishings were few but there was a mini fridge in the room and a supermarket right next to the Y. Swimming pool on the roof too.

Best wishes!

We stayed at a Hotel called the Garden View which was the old YWCA which sounds like the same hotel and i would definitely stay there again. There probably are cheaper around but i thought this was good value for Hong Kong ,where like Singapore , a matchbox with a roof costs a fortune. The supermarket in the building next door can help you eat a bit cheaper . The cable car to the Peak is 5 minutes walk but It is a bit of a steep hill to walk to from the Harbour though. The botanic gardens and zoo are across the road. The Garden View is also on Agoda too if you want to check rates.

Was in HK last year and stuck my head in Chung king Mansions as I actually stayed in there for a week 20 odd years ago and still the same sh*t hole it was then...biggrin.png

The Ramada in Sai Ying Pun has rooms at around HK$ 700. There are a few cheap guest houses on Lamma Island . There is a youth hostel up on Davis road . Chungking or Mirador Mansions have rooms for less than 300 HK$ .

I recommend The Cityview. It's a nice hotel for your budget and located right off Nathan Road (a main thoroughfare). Also, the subway train is seconds away. Lastly, the rooms while small by western standards are not microscopic like many Hong Kong accomodations. Note that you can find better rates via travel websites than what's available on the hotel's site.

FYI, someone recommended earlier a hotel on Lamma Island. That is far from being centrally located. Let me know if you have questions in general. I travel to Hong Kong every year.

Think everyone should stay there at least once.
