Ok I never believe in this sh** but I have to admitt I had a strange experience.

My father was brought to hospital on recomedation of the docter.

Ok they did CT and MRI scan and told him he was very sick (cancer).

All the scans took place on a friday.

My dad asked OK I am sick but how much time do I have, one year two years.

Docter said: I think less.

My dad stayed in hospital and his condition went bad.

My brother called me on Sunday to tell me I had to come back now as he thought my dad had only short time to live.

So I booked a flight on Tuesday to go back my home country.

During the flight I had a dream.

I talked with my dad and he asked: Can I go now or I have to wait for you.

I told him: Please dad go if you are in pain.

At that moment I woke up and sensed a strange smell and I knew he passed away.

In my dream I also see what clothes he wear and hear what was told by my brother to the nurse.

Later I asked my family if it was true or not what I see and hear and they confirmed, also the time I woke up and noticed starnge smell was the time he died.

Scary but also beautyfull

Alex

You were lucky to experience that Alex, the memory of what happened will stay with you forever and make you feel that you were very close to your Father. There was obviously a lot of Love between you. sorry for your loss, it must be very painful to loose a Parent.

When I was younger an episode of Winnie The Pooh had me hiding behind the sofa :D

Does that count? :D

:D

This will sound really stupid but when I was about 8 years old I scared the bejesus out of myself and my younger brother. We were watching a scary movie on TV. We were just about to the point where the hero was about to grabbed by the monster. I was on the living room couch with a pillow under my head. I was resting on my arm. I didn't realise my arm had gone numb, and it was dangling over my head. At the point in the movie where the monster was about to grab the hero I happened to glance up and notice my arm hanging down towards my head, the hand only six inches away from my face. I let out a scream that caused my younger brother to jump up and run out of the room. I was sure the monster on the TV was really reaching for me. It took my brother 10 minutes to calm down. (He was 6 years old then, and he still remembers the time I scared the hel_l out of him.)

:D

Now if you want a true "Ghost" story, here it is. My sister had a cat, that was killed by a car outside our house. My father buried the cat, but didn't tell us the cat had been killed. My mother knew however. The children were just told the cat had "run away". I slept downstairs, the rest of the family was upstairs. Now here's the thing: for two weeks after the cat was killed, the one we were told had "run away', I heard the sound of that cat walking outside my bedroom and meowing outside my door. I would get up and open my door to let the cat in, but I never saw the cat (of course). After about two weeks my mother confided to the kids that the cat had really been killed by a car. We kids held a funeral for the cat. That night I hears the cat again outside my door, bur I "told" the cat that it was dead and to go away. (No matter how silly that sounds). That was the last night I "heard" the cat.

Believe it or not that is a true story. Just so you know, one of my mother's family, Isabela Austin Towle was arrested in 1695 (or about) and imprisioned in Hampton, New Hampshire as a Witch. She was fined 100 pounds (a lot of money for that time) and forced to attend the local church where she was "cleansed" of her witchcraft by the local pastor. The record is in the town history of Hampton, New Hampshire, U.S.A

I still sleep with all my lights turned on. (Can't sleep otherwise. Now that I talk about it, does anyone have a suggestion or a solution?)

Have you tried using a light on a dimmer switch and slowly setting the light level lower and lower on progressive nights until finally it's dark? Most people have trouble overcoming their phobias in one step, but can often do it if they take it small steps at a time. I'd suggest installing a dimmer switch that has some marked levels on the plate, or make your own markings and every night set it just ever so slightly lower than the previous night. You probably won't notice the difference from one night to the next and so pyschologically you'll think it's the same as what you're used to. If you start getting afraid, turn it back up a bit and keep it there for several nights and then try again to lower it.

Great suggestion, Soju. I do have 2 dim lights and I'll give your suggestion a try. (If I feel brave enough, but now that I think about it ....... I'm kinda feeling nervous. ***sigh. Never worry though, my cowardice levels do vary from time to time.)

Very similar here. Dad was diagnosed with cancer and only 6 months to live. My brother and I flew to Florida to see him one last time. It was as if he was waiting for us to arrive. My Mom said he had gone through a bad night just before we arrived in the early morning. We spent the day with him at his bedside. He knew we were there but it was very eerie...he wasn't speaking, would only open his eyes on occasion. My brother and I sat on either side of him and held him as he passed away just hours after we had arrived.

That night, sleeping on the sofa bed in the Florida room of the house, everyone had gone to bed hours before. I had the oddest feeling that someone was in the room and sat up in my bed. I can't quite say what form the presence had or even how long it was at the foot of the bed, but I had a strong sense of smell to something that wasn't normal....not natural. The "vision" moved backwards and then was gone. I went into the bedroom to see if anyone was up. My folks bedroom was empty (Mom had slept on the couch) and I walked to the side of the bed that my Dad had spent his last hours. I felt it....still warm. And empty.

I think about this often, but it's more of a passing kindness...a final farewell, than a ghostly experience. Makes you think.

My wifes grandfather was very much of the 'old school' very practical, expected things to last forever etc, you know the type. About 40 years ago he noticed some colour fading on the top of some furniture so decided to cover it with 'formica', a sort of hard wearig plastic. He did a very good job and was very proud of his handy work, saying 'it'll last a life time'.

He and his wife went into an old peoples home and he gave the furniture to us, we still have it and it's still beautiful, made in the 1940's. We had thought about removing the formica and varnishing the surfaces, but out of respect for him decided to leave it. Any way about 10 years ago he died and we attended the funeral which was very emotional as he was well liked and respected, my wife was very upset, she and her grandfather were very close.

Here's the weird bit, when we had arrived home from the funeral with tears still in our eyes, the formica had totally peeled off both pieces of furniture and was just sitting there in a 'U' shape, with all the items that were on top of the units just strewn around. Both pieces peeled off on the same day after some 30 years - it had indeed lasted a life time! Weird or what!

ok you guys, I have to tell you, this is real. I am someone that needs very strong proof, but when my mother died I experienced similar events, one of which someone witnessed with me.

I was living on the west coast of the states at the time, and my family called me to tell me to come home (New York) on the next flight. Before I got their call, I had fallen into a sudden and deep feeling of remorse with absolutely no idea why. I went to sleep that night with my then boyfriend, and as we were drifting off, we heard the rocking chair in front of the bed crinkle, and then move unmistakably, as if a body was settling in it. I froze at the sound, and he got up to look; neither one of us had said a word to each other. We went to sleep, and the next day I got the phone call. My mother was in a coma. We were in the midst of making plans for her and my father to come out and see me.

Once in New York, she died a few of days later. I had a similar meditation as you, in which I told her it would be ok if she wanted to leave; she did, the next morning. During that night, I had my first real sleep in days. I am afraid of ghosts, and she always teased me about it. At one point during the night (sleeping with all the lights on), my brother's dog, a German Shepard who couldn't stand me, came into my room. I awakened to find this dog standing near my bed, gazing over me while I slept. He had a very reflective, still look in his eye. I was a little surprised, petted him, and encouraged him to go sleep downstairs, where he always sleeps. The dog left reluctantly, and looked at me again when he left. It was such an odd occurrence, because the ###### dog would always terrorize or run away from me whenever I took him out for a walk.

The next morning we got the phone call early. Her body was shutting down throughout the night. Apparently, she haunted my father to no end all night (one of her sweaters was tapping against the door in their room where it was hanging), as she had often joked about when she was alive.

I think she came to see me one last time through the dog, because she knew I would not be scared.

Anyway, Alex, yes it's beautiful, and it's real.

Great experiences in the above stories (and my condolences for the loss of your loved ones). Not unusual, though, and there are explanations for the experiences. But alas, most people aren't yet ready to deal with worlds other than this. Until then, that knowledge will remain latent for the masses and this be the only "known" world. There's so much more, though.

Yeah, I know what you mean, Tipp. I have my own explanations, such as I think there is a transition between soul and body as a person is about to die or recently deceased, and these kinds of visits to their loved ones are not uncommon. I've heard numerous stories, from people who otherwise would never think of a story like this.

What's your explanations?

We used to rent an old wooden house built by chinese immigrants to Thailand, there were 2 families living in the one huge house & they had raised their children & grandchildren & run a supermarket in the front downstairs room. Well, both sets of couples had died in the house & our landlady used to come every chinese new year & make offerings in the garden to her ancestors. When we moved in she asked us if it was ok to leave some things in the spare room as se felt they "belonged" to the house & we said ok. These things were very old sepia photos of the 4 grandparents who had died, a bunch of old pictures of buddhist deities & a picture of a monk from about the 1950's, as well as a single crutch (from when u break your leg, that was weird)!

Well, hubby wasn't over the moon about the things as he was spooked but we decided to make a corner at the far end of the lounge to put up the pictures & he lit incense & left food sometimes to keep the ancestors happy.

Thats not he spooky bit though :o When ever our 3 dogs came up the stairs past the shrine, their fur use to go up on their back & at least once every night, they would all run barking to the corner with their backs up & get really distressed. There was never anyone there (obviously) & no sounds could be heard but it used to freak hubby out no end & I admit that, although not superstitious, it used to get to me too if I was alone in the house at night!

<snip>

What's your explanations?

These things I generally keep to myself, kat, since it's bad policy to answer questions that people aren't asking. That's a practice that easily gets you crucified or hanged. :o Especially if you're blunt. I've never been one to go to hangings, especially to go as the guest of honor. :D

Since you asked I'll answer, but not too direct, and I will tread lightly. There is more to you than you know. Much more. And the part that you call "I" is but a part. In any given "lifetime" it is generally the only part you will ever be consciously aware of. Outside of that earthly conscious awareness you exist in other terms, and with greater awareness. And in other "worlds," if you will. The choice of words are up to you; labels are not important.

And yet this world, as seemingly closed and isolated as it appears to be, is not an island unto itself. There are pathways that connect all worlds, or realities. Not only do other forms of communication exist that are currently not recognized or accepted (telepathy, for instance) which operate underneath normal daily awareness but travel to and fro is quite possible (don't expect to take your physical form with you, though). The dream state is such a one in which communication and travel takes place.

Given the above it becomes evident that much more exists of which we know little, or nothing about. And it exists despite beliefs that would deny it's very existence. And so there is much more experience that exists outside of our usual "official" experience. These other events at times impinge upon our perception and make themselves known. Always for a reason. And always and only with our permission. Importantly, they cannot intrude unwanted, as is so popularly believed.

Now, I'm afraid that the above paragraphs, as broad and general an explanation as they are, are enough of a mental stretch for most. So I'll stop there. And yet they provide enough hints and clues that if followed will lead the interested questioner to knowledge which exists, has always existed, and yet is relatively unknown. That knowledge lies within each of us. Most question little and therefore have no interest to know. Mai pen rai.

I hope I've expressed it well enough for you to relate.

Edit: As a side note, for those who believe the Thais to be fatuously superstitious think again. They still carry beliefs which are remnants of knowledge which was once more common and accepted. As is the case with many other cultures. Albeit, as former knowledge falls by the wayside it tends to become quite distorted as it's dissipated through future generations.

Boo, so much happens that is currently beyond the scope of present, common knowledge. Yet though there may be no explanations within that current body of common knowledge the events are generally undeniable to those who experience them. They'll call you crazy, but you know that what happened did indeed happen.

Since these types of events cannot be rationally explained they must be accorded an explanation nonetheless. Humans have to have an explanation for everything. Hence the terms luck, chance, happenstance, accident, fortune, fate, fluke, etc. These are the terms that were specifically created to explain that which lies beyond present understanding.

Superstitions arise from a false interpretation of many quite valid, though not usually occuring events. On the otherhand, there are also valid pratices which are commonly labeled superstitious by outside observers who lack proper understanding and they thereby tend to invalidate the experience.

Something's definitely going on here, but what is it???? There are answers to every question, and reasons for everything that happens. Up to the individual as to whether he/she really wants to know. And out of the terms I listed above none of them exist in truth.

This wasn’t a spooky experience for me but for my dad

It was the day of my sister’s funeral and afterwards we were all at my brother’s house. When it came time to go home I went in the car with my dad, we left my brothers house and were driving down his lane which is around a mile of country road with no lights, we weren’t really talking to each other as we were letting the days proceedings sink in

All of a sudden my dad felt what he thought was a hand on his shoulder and he thought it was just me being compassionate and consoling him, he felt this for around a minute and was feeling good until he looked across and saw me lighting a cigarette using both hands. At this point he let an unforgettable scream out of him, which scared the shit out of me, so I screamed too

He slammed on the brakes and switched on the light

He had left the car window open and my brother’s cat jumped into the car and hopped onto his shoulder, my brother says he will never forget my dads face when he carried the cat back inside his house, he said he has never seen such a look of terror, all very funny looking back on it now
