Thailand Mulls Out Visa Online

Featured Replies

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is now considering a proposal of the Tourism Council of Thailand (TCT) to launch visa applications on line. The Ministry agreed in principle to allow tourists from some countries to submit their applications on the web as it would help to speed up immigration procedures at international airports and alleviate the large crowds which today fill up Bangkok Suvarnabhumi and Phuket International airports. The ministry will work out the details of the online visa application and inform the Tourism and Sports Ministry. The procedure could then be available before the start of the high season in October.

Not sure what difference this is likely to make at BKK and Phuket in practice. Most tourists are automatically stamped in for 30 days in any event. Would only seem to be helpful to the handful requiring 60-day visas and/or ineligible for automatic 30-day stamping-in.

I think they talk about the 19 Countries eligible to enter Thailand under the VISA ON ARRIVAL rule:

  1. Bhutan
  2. China
  3. Cyprus
  4. Czech Republic
  5. Estonia
  6. Hungary
  7. India
  8. Kazakhstan
  9. Latvia
  10. Liechtenstein
  11. Lithuania
  12. Maldives
  13. Mauritius
  14. Poland
  15. Saudi Arabia
  16. Slovakia
  17. Slovenia
  18. Taiwan
  19. Ukraine

The 30-day-stamp isn't a visa. It's a visa exemption.

Acquiring a visa online would mean VOA, tourist, non-immigrant, because that are visa's.
