Driver seriously injured in North Pattaya road accident

PATTAYA:--In the early hours of Saturday a single-vehicle accident occurred at the North Pattaya intersection with the Sukhumvit Road badly injuring the driver.

Police and rescue services were called to the scene and rescuers began by extracting the driver of the White Toyota Minivan, Khun Chalerm aged 26. The van collided with a CCTV Pylon situated at the side of the road and witnesses mentioned seeing the vehicle speed up as the Traffic Light turned red. He came from the North Pattaya Road onto the Sukhumvit Road and was going at such a speed he was unable to control the vehicle and slammed head-on into the pylon instead of turning right onto the main road. Police suspect he may have fallen asleep at the wheel but are unsure of this.

Sleeping at the wheel as he drove down the road OR was trying to run the light. Which seems more plausible?

"witnesses mentioned seeing the vehicle speed up as the Traffic Light turned red." not much of a surprise there then!
