The amount they can earn obviously depends on how attractive they are and whether they find someone who will take them on for a few days/weeks etc.

Judging from the signs one sees advertising for staff between 8 - 12K a month would appear to be the bottom line salary.

They don't have to do it. There are plenty of factory jobs. The entire family could move to the city and they could do quite well if they all lived in a shared house just like they in the country. Some people just don't want to move.

Documentary film makers are just more idiot foreigners to be exploited. Give them the story they want and get a pay check. They use the same sob stories they use on the customers to get them to give more money.

10k per month would be for a waitress that never goes with customers. An actual bar girl going home with customers is going to make far more than that, can get the numbers Tommo quotes and possibly far more. Many will have multiple guys sending them tens or even hundreds of thousands of baht every month, just on the condition they stop working, and they still won't stop selling every night.
