After reading about the latest vulnerability in Microsoft Outlook I wonder how many people have made the switch to a new email client.

What email client are you all using? Outlook, Outlook Express, Thunderbird, Eudora, Gmail, webmail? Something else?

I use Apple's Mail for the Mac. Probably the nicest mail client I've used.

I also have Yahoo!, HotMail and GMail accounts that I use for various purposes. I prefer the Yahoo! webmail client, but I'm getting used to GMail as well.

I don't much like Apple's DotMac webmail client, but it works.

Have been using PocoMail for some time now. Partly because it was one of the first with strong spam filtering in it and 2nd because I have about a dozen different e-mail accounts that have to be checked concurrently and saved in their own cubby holes.

Gmail with Picassa2 as my Primary.

Yahoo for the rubbish.

Another long-time Poco Mail user. I also use Barca Pro, which is from the same company.

Chose Thunderbird for the important stuff, Hotmail only because I've had the account for years and loads of people only know that address. I find that the site a bit on the crap side though.

It's a bit risky these days, I think, to try to change your webmail client - if you send out a notification email to all the people in your previous address book, you run the risk of the email being chucked in everyone's junk mail folder. Another reason why spam is such a nuisence...

Been using Opera for years :o The browser does have some problems, particularly with security systems (my bank acces won't work) but the pop3 client is bomb proof.

My UK isp (Advance Internet) provide web access to my email account, brilliant when I can't get pop to work.

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

gmail - can be set up pop and smtp , but I just keep a tab with it in open in firefox.

hotmail and yahoo are just for logins to their IM networks

Agent - for mail and news - been using it since it launched in 1995.

Gmail for a gmail account

and Outlook for a commercial account

Hotmail for the past 8 or so years...I also have accounts with GMail (for POP3 with Outlook) and Yahoo for the IM client, but Hotmail remains my favorite for its tight integration with all things Microsoft. Never had problems with security either, I think it's mainly a question of common sense not to open weird stuff.

Interesting topic, George. One question I would like to ask, is what website do people use to check their POP3 email when they are away from home?

The only one I have found that works well is: POP3 webmail access ... anybody know of any others please?

When I thought about opening a Gmail account I was referred to the fact that new accounts had to be "introduced" by existing account holders.

Is this still the case ??

Yes, it's invitation only. Email me at admin [at] thaivsa.com and I send you an invite. I have over 80 invites left, and would love to invite thaivisa members :o

No pompems!

I've been using Incredimail as my email client for the past few years. I like the features and it's easy to use. Switched, way back" to gmail as my primary, and my old hotmail account being used as a secondary...ie junk.

I'm beginning to like Thunderbird for pop3/news/rss

For webmail I use mail.com because you can choose from many domain names and don't wind up with an email address like [email protected] With all the free email out there I can't understand why people suffer through hotmail.

CDNvic - do you know a way to automatically forward all Hotmail email through to a Gmail account? I'd love to change over to Gmail permanently, just that I'm too "established" with Hotmail now, all my contacts have that address. If there is a way to redirect emails to it though, it could be the answer to my prayers...

I just want to stick in a vote for the WORST email client on the planet: Outlook Express. If you're using it, try anything else.

I quite like Thunderbird, but the lack of an integrated calendar and lack of support for vcards/business cards is pretty annoying.

Try

mail2web.com

a bit slow to open mail and/or to forward, but ok to me while I am on the run.

You need to have a password for your own mail-account.

They as well have an OZ-version, which I used b4, but seems to be under renovation:

http://www.mail2web.com.au/cgi-bin/mail2web.pl

The advantage with Gmail is that for all normal purposes you can read it using your offline reader of chocie (i.e. Thunderbird) but when you're on the move you can use Gmail's excellent webmail interface.

I don't see why anyone would need a calendar in an email client. I use Horas from Basta computing, has all the world clocks you'd need living here and having friends around the world + a great little calendar (not agenda, mind).

I think Thunderbirds lack of support for vcards/business cards are great, never liked those things :D

Redirecting hotmail email - go to hotmail and see if it will allow you to forward the mail to somewhere else. Probably not, Microslush are not in the habit of providing anything but bare essentials. :o

Pre-97 when Hotmail wasn't part of microsoft you could auto-forward, but it was abused by spammers. Now you're stuck with it. :o

I use www.phuketemail.com, it is free to residents of Phuket and does have POP/SMTP as well as webmail access and has 2 or 3 different webmail front-ends

I use Opera's integrated mail client for pop3 (Yahoo UK) - if you see something interesting on the Internet you can e-mail it in one right click. Can't imagine having to start a separate e-mail program and copy paste.

I tried pop3 with Gmail but if often gave me error messages and I had to reset pop3 option several times, same was with other free pop3 providers.

For years I am using Eudora Pro. Never had any security issues.

Webmail: unfortunately can't get a Gmail account without an US address or invitation. Have to use Loxinfo Webmail

Email me at admin [at] thaivisa.com I will send you an Gmail invite, no problems. No PM's please!

I was using MS Outlook and Yahoo! Mail Plus for a few years. When I made the switch to Mac OS X, I kicked the habit (not to mention started using a genuine OS!) and been using GoogleMail for over 4 months straight now. Sure there are some plug-ins I miss from my Outlook days but all in all, I really don't look back and would love to chat with others interested in figuring out how to make GoogleMail do interesting things with the API they provide!

I use the BAT. Saving attachments seperately from emails. Afterall if it zaps me an attachment, who minds, Outlook zaps the whole damned PST file...

As a computer security specialist for the last 40 years or so, it didnt hit me, couldnt ....

I use Fsecure as antivirus, the last 6.01 antivirus/internet secure was number one in tests but thats not why I use it. Its not only detecting, its cleaning and as today, i had a customer with Norton and the damned thing was infected... There is a GREAT difference between marketing ability and technical... Norton and MCfee are crap and if you want a free good one use AVG.

Fsecure is better though (g)

Secondly trojans/spyware:

Fsecure does help but Spy Searcher was the first one I tried which got rid of some products costing me hours by hand to remove...

Please note thats whats best for one person may nt be true for others....

I use incredimail to view all my gmail and primary accounts.........For all other acounts like hotmail, yahoo, I use webmail.

In general I set up an email acount for each forum I join, if I stop visiting the forum I let the email acount die.

Although only a small sample, it's interesting that gmail's invite only, beta system has polled much better than hotmail and yahoo considering the length of time they've been around. Gmail is great, tons of features and fast. I guess most ppl have no concern about what they do with the data they collect when scanning mail.

Hotmail has promised upgrades but I don't see them delivering... my account still has only 25MB.

I just use my hotmail for junk nowadays.

I guess most ppl have no concern about what they do with the data they collect when scanning mail.

I've no problem at with gmail collecting data as for the ad's, Ad-Block and Ad muncher take care of most of them. I also use gmail as an online storage facility for photograps.

I use GMail with MS Outlook - there is nothing that matches the integration with calendar, contacts and email like Outlook does, and although it has its flaws so does everything else, they are just picked up on more.

Thunderbird is good though, but it is underdeveloped. Firefox is focused on too much, and Apple Mail - well that is just amazing. If I had a Mac I would use that!
