Help With Finding A Suitable (thai) Private School

Featured Replies

I hope I'm posting this in the right forum - if not would a kind hearted mod' please move it.

For reasons I won't bore you all with, my missus and I have now got custody of her 5 year old son from her previous marriage. She's obviously very happy about that but is concerned about schooling. The lad is a Thai national. The problem is that we live in rented accomodation, so his 'tabien baan' remains up country. Thus we can't send him to a state school in BKK (none of our friends who do own property live in the same area we do).

I'm prepared to dip into my pocket for a private school. However, the second problem is that I don't think I can stretch to a full international school (assuming he was admitted - no English ability as yet). Therefore a Thai private school may be the best option for him (I am assuming these may be less expensive than the Int'l ones).

Can anyone assist me with either (i) recommendations or (ii) any resources I might use in my search?

We live in the Yannawa area.

Many thanks in advance!

There are ways to get the kid into a public school without having a bangkok registry. I don't know all the details about how to go about it, I just know it has been done in the past (in my own family) and expect it can be done in the future, Also, you can move the kid's registration from the countryside to Bangkok without owning property in bkk, again, I am not an expert on the details, but I have also seen this done (in my own family).

i am not encouraging you to put the kid in a government school as opposed to a private one, just that i think you could work out the government school option with a little legwork if that is what you prefer.

Sorry I can't provide exact details, I leave most of the dealings with Thai officialdom to the Thai side of the family.

cheers
