Present fresh evidence, Army chief tells Abhisit's critics

Prayuth

BANGKOK: -- Army chief General Prayuth Chan-ocha yesterday said critics of Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva must have fresh evidence in order to reopen the probe into his conscription as the case was closed since 1999 after finding no wrongdoing.

"The Army has forwarded all documents, which were the outcome of the 1999 probe, to the Defence Ministry and I am not in a position to judge who is right or wrong," he said.

Prayuth said the Army did not have any additional documents or evidence to change its decision to close the case involving Abhisit.

He said the Army Inspector-General Department was responsible for compiling evidence in the case and forwading its findings to the ministry.

"I would prefer devoting my attention to the more than 200,000 troops than to someone like Abhisit who is not in military service," he said.

Commenting on the allegation that a general and five colonels had helped Abhisit to dodge his draft, he said he wanted specific names in order to look into the matter.

The previous investigation had found no cause to suspect foul play in Abhisit's conscription, he said.

Abhisit said he had time and again explained his conscription records.

The attention has been rekindled because he is suing red-shirt leader Jatuporn Promphan for defamation.

He said he would like to remind Jatuporn and his supporters that their attempts to sway the judicial decision might lead to a charge of contempt.

He said the government should be mindful that state media outlets were being used as the mouthpiece for Jatuporn.

Pheu Thai MP Kokaew Pikulthong said if the Army found no wrongdoing in the case, then it should release a document dated March 8, 1999, which was an investigative report done by the Army Reserve Department.

Kokaew said he believed this document was evidence that the listing of Abhisit in the reserve forces was unlawful.

He also said he suspected Abhisit had an ulterior motive in using his teaching job at the Chulachomklao Royal Military Academy to evade conscription duty.

"Abhisit took a leave of absence for 200 days in a year at the job," he said.

The Gingers could only dig this up with all their investigative prowess? Intellect is not the strong point of this group, look at the lovely leader allowing this to continue while she is on constant vacation over seas. Show your new evidence or shut your whiskey holes!

Contempt of court for Jatuporn?

He has that already on his CV in spades.

Contempt for humanity and democracy can be added

The PM is not the leader of the UDD. They are a separate entity. Keep in mind that there is a strong segment of the UDD that dislikes the PM and the former PM Thaksin. The PM has little sway over the UDD. The UDD is loyal to the government as long as it is in the UDD best interests.

Whenever a figure like Korkaew, Nattawut or Dr. weng speaks out I wonder if they speak as a Pheu Thai party list MP who just happens to be UDD leader, or as UDD leader who just happens to be Pheu Thai party list MP?

Well, separate entity, like left and right arm to the same body

That may be true for some BUT we are talking about serving or former Phua Thai MP's.

Could you give details of the strong segment that dislikes Thaksin. Phua Thai and PM Poo. Thanks.

So i guess the issue is as the UDD leaders (some of them at least) are PTP MP which the PM IS leader of, the question should be asked if the PM is able to keep her MPs (including the UDD leaders) under control. If not then perhaps she should ask them to leave PTP and go it alone.

Because the truth is the UDD /PTP MP flip flop between their two roles and they see them as being exclusive of each other. When they make a provacative statement they put on their UDD hat and 'don't represent PTP policy' and the next day they rebut the furious democrate response to the previous days provocative statement by putting on their PTP hat at which point the rebuttal always follows a similar tone; that todays democrate statements show they,. (the democrates) are trying to topple the goverment or such like.

A statement which certainly muddies the water as the Dems were responding to UDD comments, not PTP. But that is UDD policy - deflect, distract and confuse the voting public.

This flip flopping certainly confuses our dear paper PM, so much so that she has to constantly go on holiday to various parts of the world

Once again, the apolitical Prayuth lays out his neutral stance

About average for a guy who stated in his first interview as Army Chief that he didn't hate red shirts.....................

And your post is about average for someone wearing rose tinted glasses.

The 1st section you chopped is Prayuth. The 2nd and 3rd are from Abhisit.

Admittedly very bad reporting.

But hey take off them tints they are affecting your reading and reasoning skills.

So does that mean he must hate the yellows then? such is the political polarity here!

I stand corrected. However my reasoning skills are unaffected, they just differ from yours - the reading skills not helped by the source as you say.

Reading and reasoning go hand in glove.

But OK. As I said before I personally don't like either the Red or Yellow leaders. I think both groups have followers that have legitimate claims. But the leadership its just power games.

So there we have it. The same case was investigated in 1999 and closed because no wrongdoing was found. The new accusers of recent days or weeks have no documents or other pieces of evidence that were not not already evaluated in 1999. What shall we call this? A Farce? A circus? A comedy? A stupid waste of taxpayers' money?

^ #15 puccini:

No, no, no! The minister of Defence ACM Sukampol Suwannathat has said that there is something wrong and in January with the cabinet reshuffle he was moved from the Transport ministry to MoD, hand-picked for this job by our PM Ms. Yingluck for suitability. Previously he was selected on knowledge, potential a.o. Therefor when he says so, something must be wrong. Yeez, the things people like to believe :-)

What are Jatuporns conscription papers like is he 4f or what. Big todo about nothing

"What shall we call this?"

Perhaps a fairly-weak smear campaign, attempting draw the peoples' attention away from the government's notable successes, in ruining the rice-trade and in not-raising the universal national minimum wage immediately they were elected ? wink.png
