Following on from "do you carry a weapon" my two cents worth.

As Farangs we have a strict sense of right and wrong and when we believe we are in the right we stand up and front up, it is certainly not in our nature to turn the other cheek or back down.

However if you want to enjoy life in Thailand you need to adjust your way of thinking.

I am not known for my patience and following one "incident" at the Food Court in Tesco over something as trivial as a Thai man being served ahead of me when I was clearly next in line my Thai wife took me aside for re-education.

Using hers fingers to represent two people coming towards each other from opposite directions she said "If nobody steps to the side they will crash and somebody will get hurt. It doesn't matter if you are right or wrong, weak or strong in Thailand money and mafia win and you will always lose. You have a family, property and business here, if you do not want to lose these things you must learn to step aside and forget it. Its not worth it because in the end you will lose."

Lesson learned............. by the way my Thai wife is pretty dam smart!

Whilst not every Thai man is a thai boxer, mafia, or wealthy businessman the system and numbers are stacked against you. Learn to bite your lip and stand down without letting it eating away at your soul and get on with your life. It's not easy for us but I am learning and so should you!

If you were going to make an issue with something as trivial as you mentioned in Thailand, then you might be living in the wrong country. This is the last country on earth to be having a fast fuse.

It's good to have patience whatever country you are in. If it really doesn't matter at the end of the day, why bother letting it bother you, it isn't bothering them.

Criminal matters are different, but trivial, let it slide.

Agreed ..... sometimes we just need to grin and bare it....

It can take a while to adjust, some take longer than others, (some never do) ..... but generally not difficult to just "move on".... wink.png

I had a similar 're-education' from my Thai GF years ago. The next time it happened I made a very big show of backing away from the dick cutting in and giving a big exagerated wai and bowing and exclaiming 'excuse me most important one my apologies for being in front of you'. It was quite funny to see some Thai's in the line who got what I was doing and trying not to laugh while others were just thinking 'what's that crazy white man doing'. My girlfriend was embarrassed of course but once we were away from the scene she had a good laugh and told me I was going to get filled in one day. At the end of the day my attitude is xxxx em, an xxxx is an xxxx in any culture and deserves to be treated as one.

I never said I wanted a gun license, BigC. I said it's possible to get one, which is 100% true, as evidenced by the people posting in that thread now confirming that there are Farangs with gun licenses on Samui.

Obviously now you have abandoned that thread due to your embarrassment at being proved utterly wrong yet again, and have now joined in this one to continue sniping at me.
