Ear Wax Therapy

If you guys and gals really want some sound advice (get it?), you can use a product called Debrox which was recommended by my doc about 3 decades ago. I still have the original bottle, empty of course. Just use this and squirt a few drops in your ear. Wait 10 minutes. Then flush.

http://www.debrox.com/

I do not know if it is available in Thailand, but if not then ask a friend somewhere to send you a couple of bottles. This product does not come with a bulb and nozzle to fill with warm water for the flushing, but what I did was just dump out the product from one bottle and then use the empty bottle filled with skin temperature water to flush. This bottle has the perfect size nozzle and a better one cannot be found. This is the safest method and almost anyone can do this by his herself.

I would be happy to take and post a video of my flushing my own ears but for this I charge money.

Seriously, this works.

Let me know how everything come out in the end for you.

(Important note: Do not use cold water for flushing the ear. This does cause dizziness, vertigo if you prefer.)

Not sure about a salon.

I also have too many wax, I get myself ear wax remover drops from the pharmacy, drop in, relax, and clean with water and you hear sounds you didn’t hear for a long time

Hello,

Do you know the best brand to look for ?

And do you also use a pump to send little pressure water into your ears ?

Thank you.

The lady ENT Doctor did my ears recently at Rajavej- using a hook device and a suction device- I first had to lie on a bed with a solution in my ears for about an hour plus- she recommended a check up every 6 months and that had mine been any more compacted it could have been very difficult and possibly need an operation.

That sounds tedious. Dr. Rat first looks with the camera. Then you lie down and he moves a device up to your ear which goes inside and he looks into a microscope kind of thing and a thing inside grabs the wax and when the thing comes out, the wax is in a ball on the end of a pin-like thing. Takes about 5 minutes and is completely painless.

Maybe I'll check out Dr. Rat in Chang Puak next time.

Thanks.

I have has the wax sucked out at the McCormick Hospital.

But now use Ear Wax Candles.

Very safe i use every now and then.

Not sure where you can buy then in Chiang Mai.

I bought mine in Bali.

They use them all the time in the Massage Salons there.

The simplest way I have found is to buy a bulb ear syringe at any good pharmacy. Fill with room temp clean water. Tilt your head over a pan and squirt the water forcefully into the ear. The clumps will usually fall out after a couple of shots. It's quite amazing to see what is in there. After the big stuff comes out you can follow up with the various oils or hydrogen peroxide solution described in previous posts. here in the tropics there is a very real possibility of some insect finding a happy home in your ear or nose. In Thailand i have had the experience more than once of a gnat making many passes at my nose, trying to get in. I thought it was just me until I compared notes with friends, who had the same experience.

Had mine done at Rajavej recently. Went in with what I thought was an ear infection and came out 15 minutes later minus a load of dak brown, solid gunk. Unbelievable. The female doctor used a vacuum machine and it was pain free, fast and inexpensive.

That sounds like the girl I saw- helpful and knowledgeable.

I had my ear wax removed at Bangkok/ Pattaya hospital some 5 yr ago. The Dr. actually scraped the wax out. In the process he infected my ear drum and I spent the next 10 days on morphine tabs. In the states they used a water pic, like you use to clean teeth with. Warm water with peroxide did a great job.

I had a bad result there as well. ended up with a bad infection and a perforated eardrum. I have heard bad experiences from others at the Bangkok Pattaya ENT, I would not go there again.

Hydroxen peroxide is what you need.

get the 3% stuff. Dulute it at least 50%. Lie on your side. Pour some in. Wait a few mins. Drain it out.

You may be correct Buffalo, and probably speak from experience, but, without being too graphic, when I saw what came out of mine and how solid it was, I doubt it could have been shifted with out pressure/suction. But maybe once the old solid stuff has been removed, your idea is good to prevent the build up if done frequently? Apparently it does build up more quickly for many, as we age.

You can buy earclear which does have a diluted Hydrogen peroxide

This does work

You can here it working

With a bubbling action

Then use the Syringe to flush out the softened Wax

Also

I have also just used a Syringe specifically made for ear cleaning.

It worked a treat as my ears got that blocked.

Not sure if available in Chemist Shops in Chiang Mai.

Mine was a Earclear a USA Product.

here is the website in OZ but it is the same as should be available Worldwide.

I had a similar experience at the same hospital. I was shocked that this ancient old doctor pulled out a set of little scrapping tools at this "top notch" hospital. I felt like I was back in the days of cave men. Fortunately, I stopped him fairly quickly as all instincts told me that this was way too dangerous. I also had only known the method with the big stainless steel syringe device before coming to Thailand.

I left and went to Pattaya International where they used a suction type of device, but once again, it is a sharp and dangerous tool going into the ear, so I began doing it myself with a ball syringe and H2O2 as a loosening agent at home. That worked fine, but things have got better with a preventative maintenance approach, and I haven't had to visit these dangerous hospitals or even clean my ears out at home with the ball syringe again. Every 2 or 3 months, I just put about 10 drops of H2O2 in an ear and lay on my side for about 10-15 minutes until the bubbling stops. Then I drain the ear into a tissue and can often see that the H2O2 is amber colored with the wax it has dissolved. Then I do the other ear, of course. This has worked great for me for years now and has saved me the annual trip to the dangerous Thai hospitals and I have never had that blocked feeling again or any hearing loss from excess wax buildup.

I just bought some ear wax remover (Waxsol) about thirty minutes ago here in OZ.

Some years back I used to make a regular yearly visit to the doctor and he would inject warmish water into my ear and blow the wax out in small particles but they can't do that too often because it eventually wrecks your hearing.

Now they say, use a bottle of Waxsol to soften the earwax and it should come out when having a shower, seems to work.

I went to Mccormick today for ear cleaning. Painless, great results, great doctor. Procedure was 300, bill was 575. Price will depend on how clogged they are. She examined for infection, too. I had a lot more ear pain than usual on my flight the other day; I knew it was time. While the salon worked great for me for 200 thb, this method is quicker, less invasive, and more sterile.

An ENT guy at Addenbrookes, Cambridge UK, recommended olive oil, in fact he said any vegetable oil will do.

It takes a few treatments. It literally disolves the wax away. Pushing stuff like cotton buds into the ears is a bad idea.

I told a farang about the treatment at Mccormick, he went and his bill was 725, while mine was 575. He was a brand new patient, so there may have been an add on for that. He also had a male doctor; while I had a female. I wish that I had taken note of her name, because she is quite competent with a steady hand.

I have said this before on this forum but I will repeat it again here;

My doctor told me, when I thought I had an ear infection/wax problem, some time ago that the only thing that a non doctor should ever put in his/her own ear is a clean well manicured ‘little/pinkie finger’ while taking a shower.

The use of anything that increases pressure in the ear is very dangerous, especially cotton buds and any pressure treatment. (The cotton bud when withdrawn shows traces of wax removed, but has pushed more wax in than it has removed)

The use of any oils, heated or otherwise just dissolves the outer layers of wax and does not treat the underlying problem.

You may hear better because you have opened up the (now narrow) channel but you have pushed more wax back where you do not want it.

His advice - "See a qualified ENT specialist." I did! and no more problems. A little scoop shaped instrument (similar to a small fingernail) was used and all was and still is well.
