Regarding Visa And Work Permit.

Featured Replies

Currently i hold a thailand double entry tourist visa which is valid till december.

During my stay in Thailand i will marry my thai girlfriend.....we will visit angkor wat on my 1st visa run. We will then go to the thai embassy in phnom penh cambodia to purchase a non imm 'O' Visa.

We will then travel back to bangkok.

Main question is: When i am offered a job, with a monthly salary over 40,000 baht a month, will it be possible to apply for a marriage visa, which inturn will let me have a work permit for the job i have been offered.

Sub Question: If This is not possible, is the rule for having 400,000 baht in your account still valid?

Any knowledge, feedback, advice is welcome and appreciated.

Thanks in advanced.

1. You can not have two active visas so PP may not issue if you have not used your tourist visas first.

2. There is no marriage visa - the visa entry for marriage is non immigrant O and you can extend with income of 40k per month of 400k in bank two months.

3. Work permits are issued by Labor and most will accept non immigrant O visa/extension issued for family reasons as meeting there requirements for issue (as long as job also qualifies).

Make sure you get the O visa extension based on marriage before work permit. I don't really understand it, maybe others do, but they don't like to give the work permits unless the non-o has been extended. Why is that? I just don't get it at all is the truth.

Because then they know why you have the non immigrant O visa. If for retirement they will not issue the work permit. Once you extend it is marked in your passport.

So, if he wants to work immediately, he'll get the visa, then "extend" right away after entering Thailand. Makes sense with your explanation, just seems there should be an easier way, but at least I understand now. Cheers.

He can not extend until the last 30 days of the 90 day entry.

I had a work permit issued on a 90 day NonO entry stamp last year.

So then he could not get a work permit until then. Seems so strange to me.

And if he has no 400k, how can he show 40k income if no work permit yet? Do you show that income via document from his embassy, or does he actually have to show them pay stubs/proof?

You got lucky, believe me.... or maybe I just got very unlucky. Whatever the reasons, who knows, but yes I hear about people doing as you did all the time. Again, it is all so odd.

Most offices will issue - and those that want an extension might if you show the marriage certificate. You really should be able to work and support your wife so they do not have much backing a refusal to provide the work permit in such a case.

Good info, thanks. That clears a lot of it up for me. So, possible without extension with a marriage certificate (or getting lucky). Best.

Thanks all for the input.

I am glad this could clear things up for others too.
