A friends stepdaughter is enrolled at a Catholic backed private school in Chiang mai, Many feel it is the top school in Chiang mai aside from international schools. She just entered M1

His wife likes to brag about the fact her daughter passed the exam and they were also able to come up with the requested 'tea money'.I would guess the cost was over 70,000 baht for 1 term everything included.

My friend who teaches English in Thailand had a job offer at the very same school; during the interview he noticed all the other teachers come from the Philippines. He turned down the job as his current employer offered to extend his contract and he did not what to be singled out as the token farang. He has concerns. The cost of this school is much higher than others yet they hire Pinoy teachers who will work for much less, and not to insult Pinoys but one the most important aspects in teaching is accent reduction; yes some Brits,Aussies and Americans all have distinct regional accents but they should be able to turn them off when speaking to a group, this can't be said about pinoys. Might as well save more money and just use Thai teachers.

I know 2 pinoy teachers and both of them do a great job with younger kids but at a high school level even they admit it might not be the best route for Thai students.

So do many schools in Thailand have the prestige but not the quality learning to go with it?. Rather like a nice looking car with nothing under the hood

So what is the point of this topic?

Filipino teachers are no good?

Brits,Aussies and American teachers are superior with no inflection of accents?

Because your friend didn't want to work there the school is sub standard although the fees are high.

Catholic schools in chiangmai are no good?

They should hire Thai English teachers?

You don't like your friend's bragging about her daughter?

Although one shouldn't assume chances are you are talking about Montfort college which is run by the Jesuits.

Maybe by accident ot perhaps even results Montfort college does rate quite highly.

If the school is a bilingual school, then it's not uncommon for some schools to employ Filipinos as subject teachers. It's also not uncommon for schools to have Filipinos for Homeroom and KG teachers.

You might want to find out about who exactly is teaching the English Language subject. They may be native speakers.

The difficulty that is encountered with the scenario that you describe is that parents get quite upset if some classes have a native speaker and some classes do not.
