Visa Or Extension

Featured Replies

After marriage in November , I will need to apply for stay in Thailand...does anyone have experience of getting a visa (on the basis of having a Thai wife) in either Vientiane or Savannakhet ?

You can get a single entry non-o visa at any nearby consulate based upon marriage to a Thai. You can then apply for an extension of stay at immigration if you meet the financial requirements.

A multiple entry non-o is available in Savannaket Laos with no proof of income or KL Malaysia with proof of 100K baht in the bank.

Be sure to have marriage certificate, copy of wife ID card and home register signed by her (to help provide proof marriage is ongoing - for those married a bit longer than you but likely will still be asked).

Single entry is one entry of up to 90 days. Multi entry is unlimited entry for up to 90 days each during one year it is valid.

Thanks everyone...i have read all the links about Savannakhet and Vientiane but I am not applying on the basis of having a Thai child or visiting friends.

If anyone has experience of applying at Vientiane and knows of the financial requirements ..please let me know ...

Maybe driving from Nong Khai to Savannakhet is an easier albeit arduous option ????

Believe that Vientianne only issues single entry non-O, without financial proof based on Thai wife.

If you want a multiple entry, you have to go to Savanakhet, which curently doesn't require financial proof but does require the necesarry docuemtns proving you are married.

Another option is Kuala Lumphur with 100,000 baht in the bank.

If you got a single entry visa now and then extended for one year at the end of that entry that would mean that your extension would not be due until after your return from your 3 months of work. You would need to get a single entry re-entry permit (1000 baht) before you made your trip.

This option would be better for you because a multiple entry visa requires you to leave every 90 days.
