Can anyone recommend a hotel not too far from the Chinese consulate, anywhere from 500bt - 2000bt ? Is there a farang bar / restaurant nearby?

Chiang mai gate hotel.

The Consulate is literally max 15 mins walk from dozens of hotels in the inner city. I shouldnt worry too much about location, even if your hotel is in Santitham, the direct opposite end of the city, you are only 10 mins tuk tuk away..... and if thats too far you, the Italian one is closer, but thats no consula...shon I know

Yeah, maybe I'll go to Italy instead and console myself there :-)

Closest building is the "Life in Town" building about 200m north of the consulate. I believe its around 600 - 700B/night
