Just a link in case anyone is interested.

I have had my Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 almost a year now.

Never rooted it. Saw this today & loaded it on.....

In my opinion a nice improvement over Honeycomb 3.2 I had on there

Very nice & did not need rooting to install.

Very easy no problems just follow his simple instructions if your interested

Also he did a video

any idea if it will work on a Galaxy tab 7 inch ?

Sorry I only know this one works on the Galaxy 10.1 models 7500 & 7510

But I did just look at that firmware site & input the Galaxy 7 & also input UK as country & it came back with IC 4.04

http://www.sammobile...type=3#firmware

But again I just input P6210 7" tab

You need to go to that site & input your model as I do not know which you have

But I do see they seem to have it for all the 7" versions.

PS: I also downloaded the HC3.2 version I had on my tablet just in case.

Although I upgraded this tablet to 3.2 via the WiFi months ago ( I hate KIES )

Using Odin this time to upgrade the downloaded OS was much faster/easier

My T-Mobile model is not listed !

I will have to find out which model is the same

Also the T-mobile USA tablets are not phones , where the ones sold in Thailand / Europe are also 3G phones .

I read you can use the European software to make the phone work so that is the plan

Does your 10 inch tab have the phone chip in it ?

thanks BK

I cannot say, as I have never tried it but,

It does have a micro-sim slot & the manual claims if you subscribe to a cellular service

you will receive the sim with what ever services it supports. To use UMTS or HSDPA services you can purchase a USIM card

I have always assumed it was for the 3g but do not know if it could also do regular calls or not.

I also assume if it is for 3G then it could send text messages to phones?....But again I have not used it since I have a Galaxy phone already.

This video explains how to locate, download and flash official firmware for your Samsung device.

Check Fus Downloader and ODIN are relatively simple to use.

This thread explains it as well.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=834884

A Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 w/3G (GT-P7500) cannot and does not function as a GSM phone.

For a T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Tab 7 (SGH-T849) you may have to contact T-Mo for a firmware upgrade or flash a generic?

T-Mobile USA is really no help, they are the ones that ordered these Tabs blocked as far as making phone calls but they still charge for 3G data if you use a T-Mobile Sim card , not sure what the logic of that was.....

I would only be using the 3g phone part outside the USA anyway...

thanks for your help

It seems like there are several ways to mod the SGH-T849 in order to use it as a phone. I assume one could even still use it on T-Mo pre-paid.

Thank you that is a interesting app ( Fus Downloader )

I see it does have the ICS 4.04 when you input the tablet & look at Italy

same as the other site I mentioned has.

also thank you for clearing up the question about the possibility of using the 10.1 as a phone.

Although I never would I had wondered a few times about that.

So am I correctly assuming the only use of the micro-sim slot is to enable 3g then?

Thank you

One more question using Fus Downloader to check

updates available on my phone I see this when I input

my phone model & location as Thailand

S5830DXKT6/S5830OLBKT3/S5830DXKT4/S5830DXKT6

Looking at my phone I see I have version S5830DXKT4

already installed

How does one figure out by the Fus info if anything is to be gained?

Does one assume a higher number such as the S5830DXKT6 above first listed

is an upgrade?

I wondered if there is a site that decrypts version numbers etc.

Also wondered since Fus also listed the number I already have S5830DXKT4 installed

Does that mean all in the Fus list are the same with different designation?

Edit: I did find this regarding S5830DXKT6

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1526917

Seems no big changes

A GT-P7500 has a standard SIM slot. Other than that, yes, you are correct.

DXKT6 would indicate a more recent baseband and/or kernel . One can Google the codes, like S5830DXKT6, to get a feel for the release and contents, and of course compare it to yuor current version: Settings, About Phone: Kernel, or Baseband.

Yes I was thinking it may be one of those I saw online.

You rooted ICS? Does everything work as well? Camera etc?

Once you have upgraded your GT-P7500 to Android 4.0.x you can root it. Rooting does not alter the features/functions, but does allow you more 'control and access' over the device. Some applications require rooting, e.g. Titanium Backup Pro.

Thanks nice to see everything works.

Still undecided about rooting can't say I have a great need.

Removing stock apps I dont use probably the only real reason.

But now ICS allows you to hide those & I have plenty of space still.

So maybe something to play with later

Thanks

I used this ROM

[ROM][iCS] JellyBeanRom ICS v5 [P7500][P7510][13.08.2012]

http://forum.xda-dev...d.php?t=1813651 and Rom Manager but I was already rooted.

All my passwords, logins and hi-scores (haha) remained intact - I did have to update many Apps but didn't have to re-download, plus this Rom is already rooted.

Now there is an official build Camera etc works fine - can't pinch to zoom like on S3 tho...
