Today I was having problems opening some web sites. I thought at first the little MiFi router was acting up. The sites that open properly have no problems and the connection is quite fast. After fiddling with all the settings, I decided to try the air card with the Truemove-H SIM. Everything worked fine. I then put the Truemove-H SIM in the MiFi router and everything works great.

Does anyone know why the My CAT SIM has this problem? I may just keep the prepaid Truemove-H and cancel the My CAT account.

I honestly can't follow what you are saying.

You have a known good My by CAT 3G SIM, which works in other devices, but does not in your MiFi device? Is that accurate?

And you have a known good TrueMove H SIM which seems to work in all your devices including the MiFi device? Is that accurate?

Without more detail, or a clearer statement of the issue(s), my best guess would be an APN configuration issue with the MiFi device using the My by CAT SIM?

The Truemove-H SIM card works fine in both devices and all site open with no problems. The My CAT SIM acts the same in both devices in that some sites just won't open. It's like CAT is blocking the sites but why would they? These are not porno sites or anything like that.

It appears that Big Brother, CAT, has blocked MANY websites. I would guess that the censors have no idea what they are doing. I can use a proxy and open all sites. The question is why should I have to use a proxy server when the Truemove-H opens everything with no problems.

After spending 45 minutes on the phone with CAT, they unblocked three website that I like to use. They couldn't see why I had a problem since they would unblock whatever sites I wanted to use as long as they meet the censors approval.

It is nearly impossible to use search engines. I searched for GPS maps and got like 380.000.000 results. Gadget Trend wouldn't open and Eagle GPS wouldn't open. Amazingly the GPS discussions on Thai visa open with no problems.

CAT promised to call my wife to explain why My CAT is like this. If this isn't resolved by intelligent censors rather than idiots blocking everything, they can stick their service where the sun doesn't shine.

ADDED - I searched for free proxy servers and none of the sites would open.

Hi Gary

I'm using CAT 3G ( my click unlimited ) and don't seem to have a problem opening any web sites ( even naughty ones smile.png ) Ive got my DNS set to

8.8.8.8

8.8.4.4

I regularly check the DNS settings by using .. Namebench

http://code.google.com/p/namebench/

if you are still having a problem with opening a web site , I can give it a try from this end .

One can rarely go wrong using these Google DNS servers - they usually come up as the "best". Occasionally one's ISP DNS servers perform admirably, owing to proximity, but they generally suck.

Every time I use namebench the results are the same - Google DNS is the top one for me .

I'm open to any suggestions that would improve things thumbsup.gif

OpenDNS is also fine. use them all the time.

I don't understand what has happened and what CAT has done with my connection. I could tell they were fiddling with things. My connection was on and off and one time sites would open and the next time I would get the message that the site was not available. I changed the DNS to Google and it has reverted back to automatic.

To make a long story short, everything is now working great. All sites open and the connection is fast. As long as it stays this way, I'll be quite happy with the service. I had thought that the phone calls to CAT were wasted because they said they were working on the problem. It now appears that they actually were working on it and solved whatever was causing the problem.

I have started to use Open DNS. I can't see any difference but it can't hurt anything.

Unless something has changed OpenDNS servers are back in the U.S. compared to GoogleDNS servers also being in Southeast Asia, which means accessing sites should be faster with GoogleDNS since each website request don't have to go all the way to the U.S. to query the DNS versus just going to the regional GoogleDNS server. But with this being said, your ISP's DNS server should always benchmark the fastest using DNS benchmarking programs like Namebench simply because the ISP's DNS servers are in Thailand/the closest. Or at least that is how it has always benchmarked out for me when I was on TOT, JINET, and not True....and I never had any DNS issues with TOT, JINET or True. Plus the benchmarking proved just as reliable for pulling up/identifying websites. Just my experience.

Open DNS still has a server in Singapore. Namebench says Google is a faster by 7.5 percent but Open DNS easily updates.

I have never had a connection this fast before and I hope it continues to work as it does now.

Yes, I tend to be an optimist, but TIT. It's probably too good to last. Does anyone have any idea how much the My CAT Click will cost after the promotion is finished? It's 590 baht per month now.

The Thai version of the website essentially says: "Apply to the September 30, 2555 and get the promotion until December 31, 2555.", so I'd guess that the My by CAT Unlimited 590 baht plan will be good at least until the end of this year. I guess you could ask them what the price might be after that date? It doesn't seem like an unreasonable question to ask? I guess they could stick with the 590 baht price longer term, or raise it into the 690/790 range? TrueMove H is 799 for 3 GB and 899 for 5 GB, with 128 Kbps fair-use speed-limits.

typically once you sign up for a service, the price remains as long as you do not terminate service. So even if they do raise the price, you will still receive the 590 price. It seems to be like that for all the telcomm companies here. GF had 1 bt/min 1bt/SMS 24 hrs with AIS 1-2 call prepaid for years, no additional fee. But then I switched her to Smartphone package, then tried to go back, but couldn't. Now she has that 1.5 baht/min 24 hrs plan :( There is no way to get her back to 1bt/min 24 hrs without switching phone numbers. Oh well, but mao-mao packages at 0.75/min work out well.
