reading on another planet i see people having trouble with their mail going missing in korat and complaining to management is a waste of time.this year alone i have had 1 xmas card go missing,1 birthday,2 parcels and the last 5 weeks 2 credit cards and a cheque book, yet any envelope with just statements ect get delivered.the credit cards and cheque book are no good for thai's as they have a farang name on them,so if management at their sorting office can read this come and explain.thieving ba-stards.

I have had the same problems here in Sa Kaeo. I have a post office box but still have some mail go missing. I recently had an ID card (credit card size) sent to me from the U.S. And had my friend “hide it” in a bubble wrap mailer and wrapped in paper this was successful.

30years ago in patts.i used to see p.o.man holding letters up to the light, nothing has changed,1 of the parcels that went missing contained 10pr.of underpants,so if you know a p.o. worker 17-18stone or 110kilo wearing asda xxxlarge pants let me know.

Same thing for me as well. Sent some money to my niece for her birthday inside a card and the card arrived but the money was gone. This is in Ubon.

Should never send money in cards... That happens allover the world they take it out..... Luckily ive never had anything go missing and i get parcels everymonth here in Buriram

I have a very easy answer for you...Do not use a stamp. Have your mail franked. Receiving and sending your mail will not go missing. There is no cost involved and I can assure

you the mail will get there.

see here on the news in Aus a couple of weeks ago that a postal worker had been helping himself, the news also said that it was quite a common little scam by postal workers, also said that you are better off sending stuff that you want to arrive registerd or by courier as they track everything at different stages of the trip, if it goes missing they can go straight to the last check point.

try telling the banks to send by reg.it makes you think who is pinching the cards because on the back of the envelopes is the sender/address in english, but if the had any common sense they would steel the letters that arive days before the cards with the pin no's.

A few years ago, our mail stopped coming. Nothing for over 2 years. I went to the PO and told them about it. They said they had no idea what is going on. Suddenly, the mail started coming again!

Pizzes me off because now I have my credit cards sent UPS at $60 for just 1 card.

This is not a Thai issue - this is global. But compared to Africa and Brazil the postal service inThailand is excellent.....

I believe in America on Monday mornings a Postal sorting room is a dangerous place to be.............blink.png

One day last year, when the gf and I went to Koh Samui for a few days, we were sitting outside a bar on the main beach road in the afternoon and saw a local post man pull up on his m/bike. He started talking to a handful of taxi drivers who were hanging around on the corner of a soi, as they do, and after about a minute he started handing out all the mail from his pouch to the taxi drivers. After about another minute the post man left, leaving the taxi drivers with the mail he'd given them. All this in broad daylight without any concern, apparently.

When in the UK, I always send mail back to LOS by registered/signed for mail. The only time I've not done this, as the letter had no value, it mysteriously didn't end up at it's destination. Lesson learnt!

I'm curious - why do you say that franked mail will not go missing (as opposed to mail with stamps?)

Perhaps the mail was addressed to them?

Evidently, on occasions the stick on stamps are removed before the post office stamp goes on and the stamps are sold. A "franked" envelope has no value for the enthusiastic collector.

Many thanks for explaining that - makes perfect sense now

EMS is cheap and reliable for mail within Thailand. For mail from overseas with valuable contents, use a courier.

I have difficulty communicating with my bank in London! From what they told me, it was in London that the losses occurred. Their letters to me arrive safely.... but then they never send money.

At first that's what I thought but there was too much of it and too many large packets. What each taxi driver had was more mail than I get in four months. The post man rode away with nothing left. Does make you think though, especially as the local mafia run the taxis in samui.

But they're franked in country of dispatch, not receipt, so not sure how this would affect mail going missing when sent to Thailand from another country. Maybe I'm missing the point here...

Wandered down to my local PO when 3x EMS/ registered mail packages failed to arrive. 'Oh we have' said the postal worker. Upon asking why they were not delivered, l got the reply 'But the postman stopped outside your house and tooted his horn!' DUH! All the parcels showed signs of tampering. Sent an email to Thai Postal Services, with the EMS numbers of the parcels, threatening to make a police report and a complaint to The Minister of the Interior unless l received an explanation.About a week later, at 8pm, l got a call from the postmaster, apologizing for the poor service. Through my wife I understand that a big wig was sent out from KK head office, and found many undelivered letters etc, at the postal workers house, they sacked the oik on the spot.

Some may think that my action was OTT. I think not. One package contained my wifes passport with her UK visa. Another was my car insurance certificate, the third ejuice for e cigarette. since then every parcel has arrived in a timely fashion, un-tampered.

just think the amount of letters sent to girlfreinds with the odd £20 note inside that go missing, since i started this topic the cards or the cheque books has not shown up,every time some important post is sent to me i have instructed the senders it must be reg.ems.and insured at my cost, that way you have a good chance you can track it,i have always done it this end and never has it failed to arrive.

I have this problem in Bangkok too. Credit cards, money in birthday cards for the kids - all stolen. Once we had some toys sent over from grand-parents for my kids. Had to go and pay tax when it was clear that the items were gifts.

Theiving bastards, basically.

Never had anything stolen yet here, and i receive loads of packages from ebay and supplements from US based webshops. However it looks as if 1 parcel is missing. Not too bad all in all but anoying.

Sorry this was not in issan.

I too have the same problem here in Khoktoom, Prachonchai. Had some photos I had left behind on a recent trip to Cyprus mailed to me over 3 months ago, not arrived. Previously to that other packages never arrived.I do get credir card statements from my UK bank but could take a month or more. My bank will not send credit cards to Thailand, this is their policy. I have to send it to my daughter for here to send on to me by registered post.

Guaranteed if it is not franked mail or has anything more than an A4 piece of pape inside with a Farang name and address written in English it will not get here. Now though expensive I have all my mail to and from UK (except franked mail) sent by registered post.

P. O. workers like most Thai people get paid very low wages and while this is no excuse they are stealing to supplement their low income.

Not the ideal situation for me and this practise is not acceptable, but hey I live in wonderful Thailand and like anywhere have I to put up with the good and the bad of the country/place I choose to live.

I know you are not supposed to send cash in the mail, but I was using Bank of America for wire transfers and they were charging $35 USD per transfer. It worked well for quite a while and then one went missing and I stopped the practice. Found a cheaper way to wire money. This was to Lahansai, Buriram. Live and learn.

I'm surprised by the people who say that they have their credit cards delivered to Thailand.

Most banks will not send credit cards to Thailand because of the very problem being discussed in this thread.

I am not aware to having this problem in the 9 years I lived in Bangkok and nearby provinces, but here in Sisaket, different proposition. Xmas and birthday cards and presents as well as bills and receipts. We went and complained to the local Postmaster and were rudely dismissed and told EMS or forget it for Thailand and registered mail from outside. I sent an email to Thai Post HQ and gave them the story including the attitude issue. Didnt hear anything for a month or so then suddenly got a visit from the provincial 2IC. His first question was did I want them all sacked. I told him that was his decision I just wanted me mail.

He explained that here the PO use subcontractors to deliver the mail not employees and often they are not screened properly. This guy took pages of notes and told us he was going to the PO to "discuss" the issue with them and if it happened again we should call him direct. To date no need.
