SONGKHLA, Aug 17 - The inaugural flight of Firefly Airline to Hat Yai International Airport bringing 90 tourists from Malaysia's Subang Airport in Subang, a suburb of Kuala Lumpur, was warmly welcomed on Friday by Hat Yai residents.

Songkhla deputy governor Surapol Panasampon led representatives from the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), Hat Yai office, and the Tourists Business Federation of Songkhla, along with a Thai long drum procession to welcome the travellers of Firefly's Flight No. FY3614 to make a good first impression.

Jasmine garlands and small bags were also provided for them as souvenirs.

The Subang-Hat Yai route operates return trips four days a week in the hope of boosting tourism in Songkhla province and increase travellers there by at least 10 per cent.

Tiger Airways and Firefly Airline are two foreign carriers providing services at Hat Yai International Airport for Singapore-Hat Yai and Subang-Hat Yai routes, respectively. (MCOT online news)

Firefly is a lovely little airline. I wish they flew more places than they do.

Nok-Air just announced that they will fly Chiang Mai (CNX) to/from Hat-Yai (HDY) daily, starting 1st January 2013, in competition with Air Asia who have flown the route for a couple of years.

Good news for visa-runners to Penang, or tourists heading for Koh Lip, Trang, Koh Lanta or Krabi ! smile.png
