As the title suggests my onboard DVD-RAM drive doesn't see DVD's, it's fine with CD's so I'm guessing it's codex? If correct, any clues as to how to resolve?

Thanks in advance

If it truly is a DVD-RAM drive it may well not play DVDs.

What is the error message you see?

Have you tried a DVD software disk? If it can see that then DVDs should read OK.

Do you have the drive model number, should be visible in your device manager?

There is no error message, the DVD is simply not recognised, if I try to use software requiring a DVD to be inserted the software says the disk is not recognised, please insert a DVD.

Looking at the drive via My Computer with a DVD loaded, the drive shows empty.

I have no DVD software disks, everything I use is web based software apart from my OS, all other software files are CD based which work fine.

The drive number (in device manager) is L and the model number of the DVD unit is shown as ATAPI DVD A DH16A65, interestingly it shows a second unit unnderneath that which is ZTE USB SCSI CD-ROM USB Device, I'm unsure what the latter is. All devices "are working normally".

EDIT: actually I do know what the second device is, it's the CD part of the player/recorder which works fine.

Go buy some non fake DVD-RW. I dont bother with tray drives anymore. Its 2012 we got flashdrives.

I'm sure that whatever you said is probably true but I can't tell and I don't see how that helps me read a DVD in my drive.

And mysteriously it's all sorted, I reloaded some of the drivers from the installation disk and now it works fine!

Thanks for the effort though
