My passport is almost full and I will need to apply for a new one shortly. I have downloaded the form and notes from the British Embassy but I am having I little difficulty in understanding them.

It appears that I need to get the form countersigned "professionally qualified" UK citizen and provide my birth certificate. As far as a remember, last time I renewed my passport, neither were required if you were only renew an existing passport, which you could provide with the application. If anyone has recently renewed there passport, I would be interested if these requirements were necessary

The last time I renewed my UK passport was in Tokyo also with a C1 form.

The birth certificate was not provided and not requested.

If its not a first passport they will accept a copy of the birth certificate.

If you apply in person, they do not need the countersignature on the photo

I found them very helpful and it was very hassle free

Well it is now.

I beg to differ

Note 12 says :

Documents (birth certificates, marriage certificates, etc) are NOT normally needed if you are surrendering a recently expired, unrestricted British passport showing your national status as British citizen.

This is why I believe I got my passport renewed without submiting the birth certificate.

...agreed, I renewed mine last year, no birth cert needed and no need to have the photo countersigned.

Very helpful and done within 48hrs.

You are correct to differ. I am wrong. OP and I both need to go to an optician.

What about the business of getting a person of standing to coutersign the photo and application. Did you have to do that (for OP benefit)?

Hi I did have the picture contersigned as it was easy and no hassle so did not try without.....

Your current passport is proof of your identity.

No birth certificate is needed.

No endorsed photo is needed, provided you apply in person at the embassy.

When I had to renew my passport after it was stolen in a Embassy I did not have to show my birth certificate or copy etc

I did have to have the photo countersigned though and as there was no UK professional available they accepted my Belgian boss's signature even though she had only known me 4 months!!!

I was applying in person at the Embassy too.

Seems different Embassy's have different policies?

I do agree they do seem to have different standards some times.

I have said this before on this forum ( not this section) but I got pissed on as usual on

anything to do with the British consulate., me thinks some of the people on here

are or were employees of that part of the civil service.

I’ve had dealings with consulates all over the world and the British one is always the worst.

Have a nice day.

I have never had any problem with the British Embassy in Bangkok.

More friendly than the Thai Embassy in London!!

PS I have worked for the government in my life, except as a tax payer!! :o

If you're just changing a passport that's full and not expired, at the Brit Embassy you just need to go in with your old passport and two photos. Fill out the form which is at the top of the stairs to the consulate section, pay the 4,000+ Baht and then go back and pick up a week later - Easy.

Did mine a couple months ago with no problem at all. The only pain in the arse but is having to go to Sathorn Road to get Thai immigration to transfer your existing visa to the new passport.

I was wondering about entry stamps. I also need my UK passport renewed but if I do that, my entry stamp to Thailand will disappear. Can that be transferred to new passport???

Just take your old passport and the new one to Immigration and they

will transfer the stamp to the new passport, free.

If you have a multi-entry visa in the old passport this can still be used.

When entering Thailand just quote the visa number on the immigration form and give the officer both passports.

Maybe I have been lucky but had passports replaced/renewed a few times in places like Poland,Lagos(Nigeria) and Riyadh and never had any trouble & No birth certificate needed.

On one occasion they (embassy)even loaned me some money :o (Kuwait-just excaped from Basra :D )but the my promise to repay HMG had to be a signed I-O-U in...... BLOOD........

Hi,

I am in a similar situation, I have just returned to Thailand with no visa and need a new passport from the UK Embassy. Can the 30 day entry stamp I recieved be transfered to the new passport or does it have to be a proper visa?
